So, there we were. Playing the match, winning and in just one moment, my team called 3 tanks. (Ok, i think, they will own the field). This was what it happened. Faster than light, others guys run into the tanks to get cover and spam missiles i guess and the tanks started to spam missiles from the top of the mountains in Manus Peak. So, of 16 players, 9 were in the tanks. The enemy took A, B and C because 5 guys couldn't defend 3 points, and the tanks on my team were running to our base because some enemy guy used a force gun or a rocket launcher (or maybe both) so the tanks got scared and get cover. Yes, 9 guys in 3 tanks, covered behind the mountains in our base. The enemy (Art Kuan Li, or something like that) call 1 tank, and he staid spamming missiles to B so, no one couldn't take that point, and no one couldn't use a force gun or a rocket launcher against him because 9 people were scared in our base, and 5 guys were trying to kill the others and take the points. Of course we lose and of course i want the option (like killzone) to vote and kick the scared spamming missiles guys from the match.
PS: 3 tanks, got like 4 or 5 kills in the match. 5 guys got (each one) 15 kills+. Nice gameplay. |

That's why I only use railgun tanks as an anti-vehicle weapon. Also this is the obvious downside of having too many vehicles on the field in a pub match. |

I called a tank (all-Militia Sica with Small Missiles and a Blaster for the main gun - I'm experimenting), got myself 3 kills with it, including an enemy tank and LAV, and my gunners had another 5 kills each, including another LAV. Then the only enemy still on the ground blew us up with his Forge Gun. Took less than a minute to wipe out all but 3 enemies, 2 of whom were in a Dropship at the other end of the map. Also took less than a minute from dropping in the tank to seeing it explode with only one of the gunners making it out.
Totally worth it. Wrecked the entire enemy team, and cleared the area where I'd just set up an Uplink. Gave the team time to regroup and avenge my tank's death. Funny how a lone Forge Gunner has so much trouble when 3 AR guys spawn in about 50m behind him. The other team had been dominating, and about half of us had retreated ourselves into a corner, but when that happened, it turned things in our favour.
I lost about a 200k ISK investment, but I know I personally earned 150k from the battle, and in my previous use of the same tank - during which it survived, I'd picked up another 100k, so it paid for itself.
It's possible that 3 tanks CAN dominate the battlefield, or they can leave the enemy with freedom to exploit the gaps between those tanks. It's also possible for a single tank to turn the tide of a battle, even in death.
But a tank is nothing without good infantry support. Especially in Skirmish. |

I've got a sica with some militia extenders on it to use as long range anti tank and dropship myself. |

Mine wasn't going long range - I was point-blank with almost the entire enemy team. hence my survival duration of less than a minute. The enemy tank had been hit by a couple of Railgun shots from a friendly LAV before it got one-shotted by the same Forge that 2-shotted me.
About half my fitting is either defaults or BPOs, so it's really cheap. When I've got the skills I want, I'll be building a "real" tank.
I also have a Viper that costs about 20k more than the tank - also under 200k ISK. |
