Please respond with thoughts, and if there is a thread already, feel free to point it out. I know there are similar requests for more info to be displayed on the HUD, but I haven't seen anything for this exactly.
I would like to see some better intel on what I have in my scope. I think this would allow for a wider variety of tactical decisions on the field. Currently there is only dropsuit color and minor shape variations to indicate dropsuit tier or version. Here's a couple different ideas to achieve this:
1. Use absolute readout for shield and armor bars.
- Given two suits at full HP, one with higher actual HP could be displayed as a larger bar.
- This could be normalized by suit type (which is already plainly visible). IE, a heavy suit and scout suit of the same tier would have the same size bar.
- Similarly, vehicles could be normalized by type. Obviously we don't want HP bars extending unreasonably far for a tank vs. a scout suit.
2. Display dropsuit tier (militia/standard/advanced/proto) with a different symbol for each.
- This option would give less information than option 1, while still allowing more tactical decision-making opportunities.
- I think this would be more similar to EVE where the ship type is visible, but not the actual HP which depends on loadout.
Happy to clarify if needed, but I think this is a pretty simple idea so I'll keep it short. |

Being an FPS, part of the game is not knowing everything about your opponent, and not knowing specific details.
I suggested in a post that it should be easier to tell your allies apart, knowing which type of dropsuit they are in even from a distance, which you can find here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=44907&find=unread
The shield and armor bars are fine, as most fps games don't even have that kind of knowledge. The only thing I would like to see more of is the target info that appears when you highlight over an enemy. The information should be either bold or in easier to read text that is more apparent and easier to know when you're shooting. |
