I don't know if it's purely coincidental, but I've been not having a disc in my machine for about two weeks now,an haven't had a single crash of my console.Earlier I threw in Dishonored and played for a bit. After I was done,I played some Dust and low and behold,in the second match,I completely froze and had to restart.
I know it probably doesn't seem to make any sense, but just thinking back, all the times that I froze out of matches,I definitely had a disc in the machine, and when I didn't for a couple of weeks,I didn't.I took out the Dishonored disc now and I'm going to see if I freeze at all for the rest of the day.
If freezing does have something to do with having a disc in your console,I would really like to know why that would happen.
I would also like you guys to help with this experiment to see if my experience has any validity across the playerbase,or if my case is just isolated and coincidental. |

Listen, the game is unstable as f*ck. It's not you, it's not your machine, it's not your discs. It's the game. |

Then there is your problem. Sony has gotten cheap on that thing and probably the thermapaste as well. You should consider elevating your slim version a bit by putting some small blocks under it or something so that more air can circulate under it. It just won't cool down as fast as the previous versions. Also, this game is not very well optimized at the moment so expect memory leaks and such that can cause locks. I learned that cooling the system better helps mitigate the locks. |

All you are doing by playing a HDD based game with a disc inside the drive is trapping the HEAT.
Before Sony Adjusted the PS3 firmware back around 4.00, the disc would actually try to spin up while you were playing a hdd based game or watching netflix and accelerate the wearing out/ breaking of the blu-ray/ dvd disc drive.
At the same time, the company that made the thermal paste sony used in the Original Phat models was replaced by another company for the slim, while still not as good as artic silver or diamond based thermal paste it is still better than the original phat's type.
Agreed however that raising the ps3 off its pads by a few inches can dissipate the heat a little more, along with not placing it in a spot without airflow or a position that has the ps3 recycling the same hot air over and over again....overcome by using a fan. |

My system quit freezing / hard crashing 2 builds ago, so whatever was causing my issue was already adressed - don't forget to submit your official bug reports with as much detail as you can every time you freeze up. |

I have it standing up and in open air.I play on a 27" PC monitor,at an art table, and my PS3 is sitting behind my monitor.I'm 99% sure that it's not going to overheat anytime soon.
Also, the Slim (not the new Super Slim) is supposed to be waaaaay more energy efficient than the brick,an are more than marginally less subject to overheating.
So I guess my situation is probably nothing more than coincidence. |
