Whatever happened to ewar? Longtime eve players might remember a dev blog saying that tanks would be countered with dropships with ewar, there wasn't much mentioned about them carrying weapons. It feels like CCP have missed a trick here, and what would be a fairly obvious counter. Tanks kill infantry, dropships block tanks, infantry kill dropships. |

It's probably not going to be as strictly rock-paper-scissors as all that, but it's definitely a way for things to play out. Electronic Warfare is something they've been talking about for a while. My hypothesis is we'll see it around the time they implement capacitor, since one of the most powerful methods of eWar, and the one used in that devblog you mentioned, is cap destabilization.
I doubt that dropships are going to lose their turrets in favor of it, however. |

I think a brilliant ewar to start us with is a webifier beam. Like a laser rifle but instead of damage it slows its target to 10% of its original speed for the time the beam is on it |

It'll probably go in an equipment slot, and in EVE even the low tier ones reduce speed by 40%. |

but then again EVE ships move far far FAR faster than anything on DUST and so its more fitting to have greater speed reductions on EVE...unless you want a heavy moving less than 4 m/s :P |

Why bother webbing a heavy? They're already slow. You use webs to make people easier to hit, or to keep them from escaping. Neither of those apply to heavies. It'd be the rare day you'd even see them used on scouts. They'd be of much greater utility against vehicles, all of which are faster than infantry. |

I think some of the things that dropships are supposed to be able to do are too hard with the current mechanics- they said so themselves.
Back a few builds ago, I fitted a shield transporter onto a dropship, thinking I could make tanks on my team even more effective by boosting their shields (This is also what some CCP people said they tried to do)- the only thing harder than getting close enough to use it is actually targeting the tank with the booster without crashing. |

As I recall, the webifier would be used against vehicles, not infantry. Although, I wouldn't mind using webs against those speedster scouts. |
