did not see anyone discuss the practical situation on the ground. Yes, most games would have a few brave souls trying to stop a tank or drop ships with a forge gun but they keep dying over and over without being able to take out a tank. The problem with forge gun is that without infantry support (and seeing how you spawn in random spots and are playing with random blue dots it's 100% of the time) you are target practice for enemy infantry as they see you limbering in your heavy suit to a vantage ponit. With tanks as a committed AV with forge what would happen most of the time is that you would lose 5-10 suits while trying to hunt down the tank. Then, if lucky, you will eventually drop it's shields and 3/4 of armor just to see a faster blue dot assault suit run up to the tank and finish it off with a Nade while the driver is completely distracted by you and giving all his attention to either killing you or move the tank the eff away from the forge gunner who finally is getting to him. Needless to say in this situation you screwed yourself over: 10 suits wasted and at the end you get the meager assist bonus after doing all the work for downing the tank.
With drop ships it's very similar. While you dont need to run up to them or look for a vantage point because eventually they would fly in a circle and end up over your head, you will not score any reliable kills against decent pilots. What ends up happening is that after a DS appears, you would die and respawn as AV heavy (not prepared to deal with the DS) - that gives them maybe about 1-2 min of head start to score as many kills as they can before they have to deal with AV. The next phase is you putting a couple of blasts in their hull BUT! not killing the ship because most pilots are clever enough to realize what's happening and move off the map to rep. While they are repping tehy are getting points for repping (this phase takes about 2-3 min) in the mean time you are back to being a useless AV guy who is a total sitting duck for infantry. Then the cycle begins anew - the DS is back in the air and, if you managed to survive in you heavy suit, you may force them to land and rep again. By the end of the battle you will manage to help your team because you forced the drop ship to land a few times. You will not be rewarded with points for this, however. In my experience I was able to blow up Drop Ships only when flown by rookie or cocky pilots.
Anyway this is my experiece with AV forge. |
