Thoughts on the fit for an Anti-HAV focused LAV?
I'm thinking that the main defense against the HAV that the LAV would have is speed, and the ability to dodge HAV shots.
I've been ignoring vehicle skills since I started playing, but I am thinking about trying to train and put together a AV-focused LAV to go along with my Forge Gunning. I figure it might at least help in safely getting to Forge Gunning positions against a HAV/Dropship, if anything. I'm not really interested in running a tank fit, and we don't have "personal" vehicles like ATVs and such yet.
Is such a thing feasible yet in this game?
(side note: CCP give us ATVs nao please) |

Well what I've done a couple of times, with mixed success tbh, is use the LAV itself as the weapon. Head straight for the HAV at full speed, then jump out at the last second. The LAV then slams into the HAV, using the damage done & the obvious distraction that is caused by some road raging nutter powering his vehicle into another, to jump out & let use with whatever AV weaponry I think is necessary & have to hand. Like I said though, I've had mixed success with this, and occasionally I've jumped out too early & my LAV has just bounced off the HAV leaving me in not a very good place. Obviously for these suicide runs, I use a militia vehicle outfit.
...That probably wasn't what you were asking anyway, but it is an alternative strategy.
In a straight up fight though, speed is going to have to be your friend along with some very skillful driving & shooting. Dump the armor & the speed penalties. Boost your shields, boosters & damage modifiers.

Well, railguns seem to be the most effective vehicle weapon against other vehicles but i never, and i really mean never, see any LAV fitted with it. So... maybe try that?! |

Fit an advanced or prototype railgun- the higher the tier, the longer the range (no need for anything special about it besides tier- a basic advanced light railgun is more useful than anything like the compressed ones), whether it's gallente or caldari doesn't really matter, but you might want to use a gallente one, since it stands more of a chance against hybrid turrets.
other than that, just be sneaky and fire in bursts (keep holding down the trigger after the first shot, and it'll follow up with a few more- heat management is key!) |

I've done it before. Took a good chunk out of a tank's shields before an Aver finished it off, and I destroyed a blaster installation that was pinning down my team |

LAV with missile launcher then maybe in open space circle around it
Or LAV with 3 forge guns hit the HAV from behind to get it stck and all forge at once or thrown AV nades aswell
But in general another tank is better but with forge guns and swarms as support, every tank ive lost so far has been to another tank but with at least 2 more forge guns and maybe a swarm launcher tossed in for good luck |

small railguns are crap cause they doesnt do enough damage, overheat really quick and the efficency seems to be bugged. Last time i aimed at something with that ive got a 39% efficency rating. Just get a saga, a missile launcher and 2 damage mods but against anything else except a railgun tank good luck surviving longer then 10 secs. |

LAV with Missile Launcher won't hit a target (even one that large) at the kind of range you have to be, because movement = shots not firing on target. And it's worse when turning.
Blasters or Railgun - preferably Railgun - would be the best option. And neither option is particularly good.
Anyone tried a BPO-modded Baloch Starter Fit (free Blaster) with relevant skills added for the damage? Might be viable - at least against low-tier HAVs. |

The best that would be good for is suicide attacks; plus, have you ever tried taking out a starter fit LAV with a BPO blaster? Even with that it takes long. Also, if you want to attack from a long range (which isn't neccessary), accelerated missiles are the only option- small railguns have the same range, if not slightly longer than large blasters.
Edit: as far as skills, I have level 3 hybrid turret operation atm, but I don't think it makes much of a difference |
