To all forge gunners, how successful would you say you have been in your anti-tank endeavours?
Are forge guns too weak? too strong? Do tanks kill you too fast? or do you think you're armored to last long enough? How do you handle a tank that just drives away before you can really do serious damage to it? What strategies lead to success? Any info you can give.
Any relevant responses you can provide would be greatly appreciated, thank you for reading. |

I'm making a thread regarding AV vs tank, and tank pricing. I want some experiences besides just my own, partially for advice, and partially to see if my experience was like that of others. |

We have no good experience with FG , we field 2-3 but we have problem with taking down anything with it, is difficult to use, hard to hit anything and easy kill for the other team.
Its not very good isk-SP/min vise in short matches. As I said in another tread sucide with another DS will actually do the job faster and isk wise. But as also said need a training ground to get good to fly DS
FG is good but very vulnerable , but will try it out much more.
Yes yes to the others we dont use it well, and wrong and yada yada...hehe have a nice weekend. |

Takes about 3-4 shots from a low tier FG. (or the tanks I fought against was weak)
Once the tank shield is down its history. Capping charge time to Lv5 is a must.
The only time I bring out a FG is when I see a Dropship, I personally prefer Swarm Launchers vs Tanks because of more mobility. |

I am not sure whether to say nerf or keep as is, as I dont know the forge's dynamics in an organized environment (pub matches are pub..). With that in mind, my experiences follow.
- Didnt want to invest too much in it so I run it in a militia heavy suit, with one complex damage mod and a breach forge.
- It is a suicide fit for me. I do not expect to live very long with the fit, but it gets the job done 60% of the time. If you care about K/D expect it to plummet as you can go 1/5 in a breach forge fit.
- To improve survivability you need an AR/HMG with you to cover your ass vs infantry.
- Move away from the mass, whether its blue or red. You dont need unnecessary attention on yourself, but you also dont want to be in sniping distance.
- If tank on ground, you should be on a building/roof. Pop a shot, and use the height to hide if you are taking shots.
- If the tank is on a hill sniping I would generally say there's not a lot you can do. You need a second forge gunner with an assault or a logibro with AV nades and nanohives. You both need to get close up and personal with a tank that snipes, and preferably in his back. Need to coord your shots so you fire the first shot at the same time. 1 breach + 2-3 assault shots on the tank, then hide as good as you can while popping AV grenades when the tank is turning around/coming to you. You will most probably die.
- Dont expect to survive VS infantry BUT the scrambler pistol is good for suppressing them and running away.
Unverified weak spots on vehicles:
- The front/top of dropships. - The top/rear of tanks. |

you wil notice tanks wil mostly run behind cover after taking one hit so its hard to take em out if they cant hide and you dont get ambushed bye infantry a forge can take tank's out quite well but bye the time you wanne shoot the last shot you most likely will get shot bye infantry cause they just love slow moving enemy whit no anti infantry posibilety beside sidearm |

1- Forge Guns are fine, awesome rigged Tanks are hard to kill alone, well rigged tanks take time to kill alone, and bad fits are 3 shot kills. 2- No, I know how to use cover. I have a total HP of shields and armor that is over 900 HP. I can withstand quite a bit of damage, when they are lucky enough to hit me with splash damage. 3- I did my job, it is disengaging from combat. But to further salt the wounds I move in closer and attempt to kill it when it believes it is safe. 4- Cheap suits that you don't care about and doing whatever it takes to kill the Tank. My suit which is a type1 just costs me under 37K isk a suit. I have millions of isk in reserve, so losing a few of these suits don't bother me. I could try maxing out a suit, but for Pub matches, why?
What you should do as a Forge Gunner: Max Shield Operation and Mechanics, makes you tough to kill. Don't use breach forge guns unless in an organized group (Or suicidal). Don't rush a tank alone if it has infantry support, never works out right. When a Tank is on your side, ride around with it as a turret gunner, you learn a lot about where tanks like going and how better to ambush them (You also learn their capabilities better too).
-A further note, I am fine with tanks as they are. I lone wolf it quite a bit and can put real damage on a tank. I would adjust Missile Turrets however, too much distance with little negatives to using them. They have the lowest PG usage of all turrets and are more useful in more situations than the other turrets are. Small and large Missile turrets need to be adjusted. |

Seems fine to me, from what I've seen (both outside of using HAVs, and outside of AVing)- most of the people that whine about forge guns being underpowered are the ones who stand out in the open and charge, instead of using mobility to their advantage |

1 Forge Gun can take out any kind of LAV. some just take more shots than others.
1 Forge Gun can put a serious scare into a Dropship if the gunner is accurate.
1 Forge Gun will NOT take out any decent HAV worth its salt. Honestly as a full time Forgegunner, if you are in a HAV and you die to One ForgeGunner, either you suck, your tank fit sucks, your gunner sucks, or some combinaton of the three.
You need at least 2, maybe 3. I'd say 2 coordinated Forges should be able to knock down a HAV with some effort. 2 Forges and a non-Militia Swarm, and that HAV may be in trouble.
the difficult thing about it is simply staying alive long enough to get all your shots in, thats why your multiple Forges/Swarms need to be really coordinated and try to hit the HAV in rapid succession.
Unfortunately, I am usually the only Forge on the field in most of my matches(because pretty much always run a Forge), so i have not had an opportunity to really go HAV hunting with another specialized AV. I imagine it could be some fun. |

Yeah. Specialized AV requires Anti-Infantry assistance. thats something that a lot of folks don't realize.
not even Assault, a couple of Logis with ARs would do it. |

2 Forges, and Assault with Swarm Launcher and AR, Logi with AR.
1 Forge, 1 Swarm, 1 Assault, w /AR 1 Logi. w/ AR
Wondering how an "AV" Squad would work.

Excellent thread, +1.
I did do partial spec into AV.
My experience so far is that anti-AV suits are ultra-vulnerable. They can shrug off a punch of splash damage easy enough but what gets them is infantry - with primary weapon being ineffective against infantry ( I use Forge Gun but the same goes for swarm).
In an average game, even if you are playing with buddies in a squad, you have to get them to coordinate with you so that they would cover your back as you are focusing on a highly mobile target - a moving tank that would back away as soon as its shields are dinged. As a solo, even minimal coordination impossible and you are a sitting duck in a heavy suit. All-in-all you are not likely to succeed, especially in a game where red dots are already winning with a 20 point lead.
With drop ships it's even worse. I think a forge gun can scare them off and force them to land and rep off the map pretty consistently but actually taking one out requires a dumb pilot who keeps taking hits without retreating. Of course, you are not scoring points unless you are downing the thing outright.
In either case, playing AV does not pay - you are likely to lose a bunch of suits and won't get rewarded in the end.
I see AV becoming viable only when whole corps can deploy at once to provide adequate gun cover to AV ppl.
Add insult to injury, tanks and such are ridiculously cheap for how dominant they are. I dont have a prob with tanks but do mind when they are dirt cheap - you can buy a ticket to multiple 20/0 games with under 1 mil. |

Yup.
My favorite part is when they beat feet as soon as they get a dent in their shields and heal up.
Figure i'll try a total surprise build at some point. Max Flux nades and a Breach from as close as possible to the back. |
