I read in the dust section of ps home that laser rifles are supposed to be equally effective against infantry and vehicles. Can anyone place any truth to this? |

They will rip apart shields when you are within the most optimal range, 24% efficiency. But in order to use the laser rifle as a AV weapon you HAVE to hold down the fire button or else you loose your damage build up (damage build up is required because of the 24% maximum efficiency) |

On my first time using a Laser Rifle, I managed to single-handedly strip about 1/2 of the shields from a Sagaris before the driver managed to turn 90-Ü and open fire. I ran for cover, then popped out behind him when he returned to bombing the objective I'd come from (he had teammates trying to move in to hack it).
When I hit him again, he reversed up and took me out, but I stripped away his shields, and it was only a few seconds later that a guy with a Swarm Launcher showed up and handed me a 75 point Assist.
So I'd say Laser Rifles are pretty effective as a "support" AV weapon. I suck with them against infantry though. |

They work equally against shields no matter if it's a person or a tank or a dropship. The heat buildup is really effective since it increases a lot more for vehicles since you don't get down to armor as quickly as you would against infantry. The problem is once you get down to the armor of a vehicle it could take a while to finally kill the thing. |

I don't know, few days ago my (although Militia) LAV, full shields and armor went boom in nanoseconds against Laser rifle. Don't know if it was proto or something but I was amazed how fast I got told. |

I can kill a militia fit LAV with one clip of the ELM-7. They're dangerous as all get out at range with build-up. |

IOk....so because I'm trying to figure out the most comfortable av situation for myself.
So, since it is effective then I guess the proto will be ideal since there is no heat buildup. Only issue will still be dropships because they are so far away and the lasers won't reach that far. Because it will be easier to trace a dropship with a laser |

Well, I lasered this tank down to destruction with the advanced laser rifle. I had some help from one of my guys with the shields but I shredded the HAV from full armor to destruction. So, maybe there is something to these lasers after all. Will have the proto soon.... |

Still only using the basic Laser Rifle, and improving a little with them against infantry, but I definitely find them better as a partner for a Swarm guy vs. a tank, or as a way to shred LAVs. If you catch them just after they've drained their Shield Booster, the Starter Onikuma can be pretty easy to crack.
Also, I still suck at controlling heat, but I'm improving. And skilling up in the weapon so it gets easier. |

With the couple of laser threads on at the moment, I've been inspired to give the laser a go. What a great weapon, but more importantly though, thanks all for all the helpful information etc. It's refreshing to see something useful on these forums.
Anyway, back on topic, do lasers have any other impact on shields besides depleting them? Do they temporarily affect recharge rates as well?
I was trying out the laser on a low flying dropship, took it's shields down a quarter before I had to take cover, after a good few seconds I popped out & it's shields were still at the same level before I hid. I couldn't see anyone else taking pot shots at the DS, so was wondering if the laser temporarily affects the regen?
Cheers, |

Cheers, No added delay on regen, but unless modded, there's a pretty big delay on vehicle shields, and they don't tend to regen all that fast in comparison with how much you can tank them. |

Cheers,
There's just a lot more shields to repair, so if he had already used his booster his basic sheild regeneration firstly will take a time to kick in, and then will not go up as fast in % as a drop suits would |

Cool, thanks for your quick answers. I did think that was the case, but just wanted to check if it was a side effect of the laser over heating systems etc. Such a complex game, so need to check all bases. Thanks! |

Yeah, I haven't used them for infantry as yet. If I do, it would be a long distance game. CQC, I'm guessing you would get smoked as you're waiting for it to hit optimal levels.
But for the tanks, it holds promise.... Just waiting on my proto |

Just waiting on my proto Best luck I've had with infantry is turning it from a vehicle onto someone, and ripping them apart when it's already heated up, or starting early and firing into the corner, then turning the beam onto the target as they come into view. |

I spent a couple of days on laser rifles and found that if you go 1 on 1 with an assault rifle, you'll die - all other things being equal. However, they are quite useful against ground vehicles; with dropships they're generally too far away.
In order to make them more widespread, I'd like to see the range of the laser improve drastically. I'm not a physicist but the range of lasers, is quite large (certainly a lot longer than in game mechanics); the damage could be reduced over a longer distance (due to the diverging waves). This would mean dropships would be reachable and give a better chance against assault rifles. |

Being able to just pre-charge the beam and then swipe it across people for instant kills is absolute cheese. |
