Another good idea from another post: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=44939&find=unread
Not the post itself, but the replies underneath.
Basically, more icons in the HUD similar to how the nanite injectors show locations of downed players. Suggestions include:
-Players with nanohives can see players that need ammo -Players with repair tools can see players or vehicles that need health
Any other ideas? |

I think an icon showing your teammates equipment would be better, also adding an option on the radial menu like how squad leaders set orders. Say you could target a teammate with an ammo icon and ask for a nano hive. |

It would just be easier to add in-game commands that could be accessed by a press of the d-pad if you're not using a mic or just as an additional way to communicate.
It would be similar to the vehicle order menu, where you'd press a button and a list of available options would appear to select from. Examples:
Need Ammo Vehicle Pickup Need Support or Covering You Vehicle Inbound Follow Me |

i think this would be a good addition most people will have played unreal tournament when playing that u could use the d-pad for comands / requests like
capture enemy flag defend our flag etc there was no request ammo but u get the idea
this imo would work for those that dont have a mic and to clear battle comms of un nessacery chatter as peep could still ask for what they need most mmo have a follow comand like the guy quoted put in his list
eve has a broadcast system in fleet so u can click a button to recieve repairs, cap, shields etc using these d-pad comands could broadcast on the HUD/minimap like the current call for help duing bleedout |

I know exactly what you're talking about having played quite a bit of Unreal tournament.
I really hope this topic gets some more attention, because I would really like to see some implementation of this in game as it is the number 1 thing that needs to be easily communicated to the team. |

This approach is simple and elegant. Maybe even integrate it into the HUD as small icons showing what equipment they had.
Bonus: it could be a new module opportunity to be able to view this for your enemies, too.

In combination with my idea in the OP, a player with no ammo can either wait for a player with ammo to show up, or can find a logistics player who will obviously know what that player needs.

Problem with having markers to show what a player's carrying is that the game ISN'T class-based.
A Logistics suit can be loaded down with REs and other combat-oriented gear in their equipment slot. An Assault can carry a Nanohive, Injector, or Repair Tool just as easily as the Logi guy. Some can carry 2 of these items. Scouts can be loaded with any of the typical Logi gear too. The right Heavy suit also has an equipment slot.
Seeing a guy flagged as "Assault" you might assume he's a run-and-gun player, and not go to help him if there are only a couple of enemies in the area. What happens when he only has a Swarm Launcher? You might see that a teammate is flagged as anti-vehicle, but you rush over to "save" him and it turns out he brought Locus Grenades and a good SMG and could take care of himself.
If you see someone marked as "Heavy" you might assume he's the one to go up against a tank, then rage when he runs away. Because his HMG is useless. You might think that a Forge Gun is going to be a bad weapon to try and use against a large group of infantry, so when you see a Heavy getting surrounded, you'll rush to help - again, HMG guys are optimised for that fight. The reverse could also happen, assume "Heavy = HMG" and don't bother to rescue a Forge Gunner who's just over the hill from you because you think he'll be fine to take those few guys attacking him at close range.
Only real option is a context-sensitive system. We already get to see teammates' health pretty easily within reasonable range, or anywhere in LoS if you line up on them accurately. And Injectors let you see a teammate who's downed, so that also works. Add in a context-sensitive ammo counter for players with Nanohives to judge when they need to use it and when to save their hives for later.
The other side could be that, when you're running short on ammo - either 25% left in one weapon or below 50% ammo on both, friendlies with Nanohives get marked for you to aim towards. Same thing could work for Armour and Repair Tools. Drop below 50%, and you can see where to go for help. |

You're very right, thanks.
I guess I just wanted an easy way to locate the single logistics player on the map :/
Although you, and others, agree that more icons for players with different equipment would be a great addition, so I changed the OP to reflect this. |

How I would like it https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=45225&find=unread
KAGEHOSHI Horned Wolf wrote:[Problem]: It sucks to run out of ammo. It sucks to scream in the mic asking someone to drop you a nanohive and just be ignored (maybe the person has voice chat off, or is in squad chat). You might be asking a logistics guy, but he might not be carrying nanohives, in fact, there is no way to instantly know if he's carrying
[Solutions]:
Nanohive carriers with at least 1 nanohive left are marked with a special icon above their heads; this makes finding a nanohive carrier much easier.
When in the proximity of a nanohive carrier, a message should show up on the side of the screen saying to press a button (like "hold select") to request a nanohive. When the request button is pressed, the nearest nanohive carrier will see you tagged on the minimap as a flashing icon, and also see a notification about the nanohive request on the HUD (similar to the text message that show up on the HUD informing you that your vehicle is inbound).
When someone is low on ammo (or runs out), all nanohive carriers should be able to see icons on teammates indicating that they are low on ammo for their primary weapon. Instead of an icon, there could just be a bar that shows how much ammo left the player has.
Thank you for reading.
