I didn't see any thread on this within the last 15 pages, so I am posted this here
WW2 in space is good, but I always like it when sci fi games added a few elements beyond our WW2 conceptualization of weapons, unfortunately my non-creative / sleep deprived mind can only come up with two abstract weapons and only for gallante, the other ideas I have deal with unique twists on our 20/21st century weapons that the races could use based on their tech.
There is huge potential considering what the eve lore provides, so I think racial weapon skill should be added (like an amar skill that raises some all skills amar are known for). I know future weapons are planned but I don't know what direction they are going in. So I thought that it would be good if we provided some input here to possible give the developers some ideas for new weapon classes.
Gallante Abstract Weapons (here are my two ideas that go a little beyond normal guns)
Drone Gun-
Whether this should be anti infantry or anti tank, I haven't made up my mind yet, but essentially you paint your target with a gun and small drones would fly out and attack the target. This would make a unique weapon based on what kind of range you give it and what kind of damage / area of effect it would have , these decisions could simple be variants of the weapon as well. It could be the competing weapon sitting next to snipers or the Av weapon for Gallante. If it was an AV weapon it could prevent passive regeneration as well as constant damage. This would fill the void in the game and lore dealing with the Gallante's high usage of drones
Chain Plasma thrower
Short range weapon, instead of bullets it shoots out plasma (in the form of something aesthetically similar to multiple strings of lighting) as a constant stream that connects to the target if given a close enough and direct path. The target's suit could then suffer from some form of debilitation from the weapon like minor involuntary spastic controls, making it harder for the user to counter. More of a steady damage crowd control than a sweeper.
Caldari twists to modern weapons
PDW
You can look up what a PDW is. Using the Rail gun Mechanic of Caldari, the weapon would have a 2 or 3 second charge up time upon holding the trigger to fire a 3 or 5 round burst. The weapon would be high damage, half of the range of the AR. Since the weapon can't lead an assault as it would be out ranged, and can't respond as fast to being ambushed due to the delay, I wanted this as a side arm. I see this as an stealth/ambush weapon somewhat being a mix between the pistol and smg
Minmatar twists
Anti Tank Rifle aka Guerrilla Rifle
Think Sniper rifle but with incendiary or explosive rounds, it would be a heavy weapon, be a near instantaneous shot like the forge gun, it would have a better fire rate but do a lot less damage. Essentially it is able to constantly harass tanks and actually do it damage. It would be less effective against shields and more so against armor. While it is not the best anti infantry weapon it is better than the forge gun at this task. I think this fits into the minmatar lore while adding a new new weapon class.
Amar twists
Laser blade
No this isn't star wars with a constant beam, but it is a "melee " side arm with a hilt but only pulsates a laser when thrusted. It has longer range than the nova knife and can be used while moving but is only high damage if the target is hit with the right spacing. While this isn't part of our modern weaponry, I didn't classify this as a unique weapon due to the sheer popularity of the idea.
Anyways, I am most interested in any abstract weapon ideas that fit the lore. If not, then do you guys have any ideas for new weapon classes based on modern twists? |

Burrowing missiles: Locks onto vehicles and turrets. Much shorter range than the swarm launcher, but compensates with a heavier payload.
Thunder Knuckles: Based on an existing self defense weapon. Press R1 for melee, hold R1 to charge. Charged hit causes more damage, disables shields and has a chance of stunning the enemy.
Explosive Stiletto: Press R1 for a quick melee, hold R1 near an enemy to set the timer and stab. Hold L1 to aim, then either tap R1 for a quick throw or hold to set the timer then release to throw. Knives thrown without the timer set can be recovered. |
