Map: Line Harvest Date: 11/11/2012,
Bug: Free LAV taken from undamaged state to full destruction by a single clip of SMG fire. Game type skirmish. Location, middle road near enemy MCC drop in point.
"kill feed" listed SMG as the source of destruction, no other fire was taken (there were no swarms, blasters, tanks, dropships etc present) and the shots were fired from outside visual range (presumably from behind cover in a blind spot, relevant as it means the SMG was not firing point blank). |

Certain there wasn't a missile or something from beyond draw distance, the explosions are frequently the only thing that shows up, and if that hit hard enough to leave you only a scratch form destruction, you might not notice the separation between that explosion and the vehicle's destruction by SMG.
Also, high-tier SMGs with damage mods and the right skills (SMG Operations and Sidearm Sharpshooter to give range and the accuracy to take advantage, and SMG Prof and Weaponry give a large damage boost on top of having the high-tier weapon's increased damage and the buffs from multiple damage mods) can tear you apart pretty quickly. Do you remember what KIND of SMG it was?
And when you say "free LAV" are you talking about a totally unmodified Starter Fit LAV? And which LAV do you have? Either way, they're pretty fragile, so SMG fire is a believable killing blow. |

I am fairly certain (100% certainty is nigh on impossible). There were not multiple impacts nor audio or vibration cues from the game/controller as accompany things like grenades, swarms, turrets and forges. In addition I did not see any swarms, or forges on the field at all during that match (of course this does not eliminate the possibility that they were there and I simply didn't encounter them but it does reduce the likelihood that they impacted this situation).
A player using top level 5 character skills related to the SMG could indeed account for the range aspect but as a frequent SMG user myself I've not seen one do this kind of damage to a free LAV even at point blank range. I am approximately 80% sure that it was a Toxin but that kill que scrolls so fast I can't be completely sure.
You are correct when I say "free" I mean the 100% unmodified "I'm taking my life in my hands to board this thing" LAV. As to version it would be the one assigned to Gal Fed characters.
I need to reiterate this, the SMG wasn't "the killing blow" it was the only damage source of which there was any indication whatsoever. Furthermore this was not a sustained loss of shields/armor (for example as it would be when an Assault Rifle is used on a free LAV) but a dramatic loss of shields/armor much more akin to a high alpha burst than a sustained application of dps. The SMG has a high enough rate of fire that the rate of damage application isn't terribly shocking but the amount is at odds with all of my prior in game experience with the SMG (both in using it myself and in observing it).
This is in no way a balance consideration, it is an anomaly in the baseline of battlefield events, hence the bug report.
As an additional note, I have inquired among beta testers that I squad with and similar out of line damage applications have been experienced by them as well (such as an Assault Rifle taking a HAV from full shields into armor, and we're not talking a Meta 1 HAV either). However, while those experiences are in keeping with my own I am only reporting the bug I have first hand experience with. |

With ALL the right skills on their side, and no survivability skills to you, a Toxin SMG would be able to do this without reloading, but they wouldn't be able to do it while hiding.
So... yeah, I'd agree this is probably a bug.
I personally haven't seen - whether I was involved or not - any scenarios where a weapon has done untoward amounts of damage that go beyond what skills and weak points on the target can explain.
And when I mentioned the "killing blow" thing, I was suggesting possibly a blind-fired missile from a vehicle turret that happened to land on you and deal JUST short of the damage required to kill - that would have meant MOST of the shield and armour being taken by a missile in one hit, leaving you exploding only a fraction of a second after that impact, but the final hit coming from the SMG and not the missile that did most of the work. Basically, the idea behind that possibiilty was that the vehicle explosion might have "covered up" the missile impact. |

This is quite curious. I was messing about when a team mate in an armour tank was on the enemy team. We were also playing Line Harvest. For me it was an AR doing insane damage to a Madrugar. I think 4 clips would've killed him from a quarter shields.
I have tried it a few times since when I've seen them and it's not happened again, but this wasn't on Line Harvest.
Could this map or a certain look/mood on this map be doing something weird to damage figures?. I've heard of things like this happening in wormholes in EvE is all and I'm now wondering if it is intended or part of some sort of dev plan. |
