Sometimes, I get bored with the DUST 514 beta.
I go play Resistance, or Brink (yes, I actually enjoy that), Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed (but not multiplayer any more, because Ubisoft broke it, and not ACR or AC3, because they refuse to support their products, so I refuse to support their company), Kingdoms of Amalur, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, or any of the countless other games I have. Then I come back to the DUST 514 beta, and it's fun again.
And if you don't think the beta has improved since it started, you obviously either started MUCH later than you claim (as in... no pre-Codex playtime AT ALL), or you need to relearn the highly valuable skill of actually remembering what happened more than two weeks ago.
The current state of the beta is SO far improved from the E3 build that it's barely even worth TRYING to list the changes. The graphics are practically an order of magnitude better, everything is smoother, there's new toys to play with, most of the bugs that were there are gone - a few have been lessened instead of removed - the new bugs, while annoying, aren't nearly as game-breaking as the old ones... it's HUGELY improved. You can't claim they haven't fixed things and actually be telling the truth. |

Logi Bro wrote:I see what you are saying, but adding more toys doesn't make the game better. I have to completely disagree with the "everything is smoother" comment, because I have played since E3, and that game was fun. Yeah, we didn't have all the gadgets and gismos that we have now, but it was great, everything was much better balanced (but not not "imperfectly balanced" as it should be) and the game was worth playing.
Really? Back when Swarm Launchers were one of the best anti-infantry weapons in the game and also out-performing Forge Guns against anything other than HAVs? You could blind-fire Swarms without a lock, at mid-range or further you could accurately place them on top of a group of players and wipe them out. Then they "hotfixed" them so they had reduced damage vs. Infantry, and a single Swarm Launcher was still about as good as 3 Mass Drivers, except that Swarm Missiles were more likely to actually explode, because about 60 or 70% of Mass Driver projectiles spontaneously vanished without detonating, and they still hit a MUCH wider area. And against LAVs, blind-fire was accurate enough to guarantee the kill at point-blank when now you have to be able to get the lock. Also, blind-fired Swarms were more accurate at longer ranges, so you could just send them down-range and let them wipe out that LAV in the distance.
Quote:You say that everything has improved, I say YOU need to try to remember, not two weeks ago, but more like two months ago. Two months ago (or maybe a little longer, I'm really bad with time) when all we had was the E3 map, and skirmish started with one side defending and the other attacking. Do you remember that? Back when everyone called in militia vehicles and clogged the game with vehicles, but that didn't matter, because AV actually had a fighting chance, and some people actually played as AV(I was one of them, before I was Logi Bro), back when heavy dropsuits could actually fill their role because they had a substantial amount of armor, back when logistics was actually an important role because only dedicated logi's had gadgets to help their team-mates, back when...well you get the point. I'm saying there was less to use, but there was more to play.
I've only been playing the new build for a few days. Before that, I'd taken a break. They had only just introduced Orbital Strikes when I stopped playing - Laser Weapons were confirmed to be on the way, but hadn't shown up yet.
I remember - VERY clearly - the horrific sniper-breaking and long-range AR-breaking deadzone issues that crippled EVERY control scheme for the majority. I remember the way the BPO Dropships used to show up and get 4 kills in a few seconds without a single shot fired. I remember seeing a team redlined by a group of well-fitted Sagaris HAVs that barely cost more than a decent Forge Gun fitting is worth now.
And for the record, my Repair Tool still works fine. And while my previously preferred Scout fittings are a little too frail for my liking in the new build, the tanks are easier to rip open as well. |

There are several other examples, DCUO is probably the best.
No, not AS massive, but still a console MMO. DUST isn't the first. |

I love Brink. We should play sometime. Do players still play brink?
Apparently at least 2 people do.
Although I haven't tried playing online since deciding to test whether SD's claim to have "fixed" the problems with their online matchmaking system (they hadn't). It's possible they've improved things for multiplayer since, but I don't trust them. Have they added something resembling a lobby system yet? Is it possible to get a team together BEFORE the mission start timer kicks in? Because even after the THIRD time they claimed to have "fixed all the problems" people were having, you still had to just hope nobody else joined the game and filled a slot you were planning to use for one of your friends. At that point, I gave up on trying to play online.
Being mostly terrible at the game didn't help matters (good Medic, decent scout-focused Operative, occasionally did ok as a support-focused Soldier, but not useful for much beyond that). I'm better at Transformers" War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron, and better at DUST, than I ever was at Brink. |
