My main frustration when trying to shoot down a dropship is the fact that the missiles I fire from the swarm laucher seem to have a top speed that is the same speed that a dropship flies at. In other words, the missiles never catch up.
All a dropship pilot really has to do is fly around long enough for the missiles to fade away.
The only time I've ever been able to shoot down a dropship was to fire at one that was flying towards me. But that's not exactly an advisable tactic as the dropship could just dip down and crush you...
That being said, I've only used the swarm launcher included in the default anti-armor class. Maybe there is one with faster missiles. I just think it would make a little more sense from a balancing perspective, to at least give newer players (or anyone using the default AA class, a chance at dealing with a dropship.

The problem is less about speed and more about pathing. When fired, the missiles aim for where the Dropship WAS when they were fired, then turn to follow it.
There are other issues as well, like occasional missiles deciding that wall looks nice and deciding to take a 90-Ü or worse diversion from their intended course to check it out.
If the missiles actually aimed at where the target IS, instead of where it WAS, this wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem. A smart Dropship pilot, with sufficient warning, can keep pace with the missiles. BUT that same Dropship pilot, when caught unawares, should be dead. In previous builds, with the same Swarm and Dropship speeds, they would have been. In the current build, they aren't. |

My thoughts are that you should read a few of the other dozen active DS/SL threads and contribute to those rather than start up yet another. |
