For those of you who bought a PS3 for Dust514 and are disappointed and are now letting their PS3 sit and, well, collect dust. I am a long time console player who just happens to think like an EvEer. Here are some games I think you may enjoy. Take my advice and use your PS3! It can be FUN!
MASS EFFECT SERIES This series fits well for you "EvEtards." Great storyline! And can be fun to play between cutscenes lol. Gun game isn't great tbh but its better than dust. "Biotics," special skills that can be leveled up, add another fun little element. The EvE mission runner would enjoy this game I think. But it can still get a bit intense at times. I like the 2nd game just as much, if not better, than the third. Downside is little to no online play. Great overall series and the first two can be picked up fairly cheap. (I highly suggest playing them in order.)
BORDERLANDS SERIES Hands down one of the best games I've played in awhile. I've only played the first but I plan on picking up the second. Which I've heard is better (if possible.) I wish Dust had taken more from this game. Equipment and gunplay is far superior. Comical, sometimes vulger, storyline. Each character has a small skill tree (nothing to Dust) that lets you personalize playstyle. Even better online although a "duel" with a friend is the most pvp you'll get. I recommend this game to everyone. I think the first one sells about 20 USD used now
Enjoy! |

No. Ico and SotC are required games on PS2, but merely recommended on PS3. And MGS series, while awesome, isn't a must-play for the current console generation. I'd agree with the earlier games, but again, those were must-play on the older consoles.

Even if you don't enjoy it, it's something everyone should experience. And I VERY strongly disagree about it being overrated. It gets its fair share of bad press - a fair share for Journey isn't much, but there are still people who don't like it. |

Thanks for the info. I bought a console for other reasons, PS3 specifically because of the Dust interface with Eve. I've downloaded demos of even *OMG* CoD (no way I'm paying $30 bucks for it) and a few others to wrap my head around the gun-game and trophy system stuff.
I'll start with Mass Effect, since it is apparently good for Evetards, and probably give Borderlands a whirl too. Might as well, I'm getting burnt on Dust and could use the time off.

Journey is one of the most beautiful gaming experiences ever created. And it's also geat to try and break, accomplish tasks the unintended way. I wouldn't be surprised if I've done 2 dozen full playthru's. Easily GOTY...for me anyways. |

I'll have to have a look at this 'Journey' ... sounds interesting. I'd forgot about MGS too they were great on the PS2 ... have to try out the new one.
I pretty much bought a PS3 to get involved in DUST ... but I also wanted to check other stuff out since I'd not had a console since the PS2 plenty of years ago, used to like GTA and Grand Turismo so I wanted to check out the new versions.
I've paid for plus and got the Borderlands 1 and to be honest I'm not keen on the style or the flow ... it's a bit cartoon'y and too much running back and forward for my liking, but that's just my opinion.
Mass Effect 3 came with the bundle and I tried it, but couldn't get into it, now I'm more used to using the pad again I might try that again.
I'm certainly not disappointed with DUST ... I'm happy with the progress I've seen in general, though I wish they'd ignore some of the crying until enough of the stuff is in place to start balancing properly. |

I am not a FPS player and am more into strategy/RPG. Tried the Civ game (uggggg) and am really not aware of any strategy/rpgs with depth (not FPS masquerading as RPGs)
Anything? Especially turn based?
That said I feel just for the Blu-Ray/Web surfing the PS3 is a good system- For gaming though? not so much IMHO. |

Mass Effect is fun. I'm not so keen on the guided storyline stuff, but it still has some choices so a minor deal. Good call. I havent played Borderlands yet, but if the gameplay looks anything like the cartoonish trailer, that may become a favorite for messing around with lots of really big guns. |

Dragon's Dogma.
play it now.
best RPG combat I've seen in a LONG time.
it made me utterly inable to play Skyrim again after putting a lot of hours into Skyrim.
also, the PS3 has the majority of the Playerbase for DC Universe Online. something like 75% of DCUO's players are on PS3. |

isn't XCom a strategy RPG type series? a new one just came out, I'm sure.
also, as I said, Dragon's Dogma. but thats more action RPG than strategy. but the combat system is pretty amazing.

The core reason I hadn't mentioned XCOM already is because it's multiplatform and there's a PC version. The suggestions were for PC gamers who have a PS3 and want something different...
Although in saying that, there are still some pretty troublesome bugs affecting the PC version of the game that don't hit the PS3 quite as hard.
And it's turn-based, which was part of the request. |

come to think of it...I don't see many EVE players disappointed with Dust, other than because it is not on PC.
most of the "disappointment" comes from former MAG players, from what I can tell.
I could easily be mistaken though. |

Enjoy! Thank you OP for pointing us EVE players, who have been called as being 'to nerds what nerds are to normal people', towards some good games.
We certainly do not have any kind of idea at all what the current gaming landscape looks like, cause with an average age of over 30 and decades of computer use behind us we only remember games from back when 16bit graphics was something awesome and new. |

Not so much disappointment, just slight burnout. When I wake up in the middle of the night with some idea I want to try with a dropship or machine gunner, its time to unwind a little. Dreams are supposed to be about virgins feeding me grapes or something way more important than some video game.
