There is a lot of talk about whether tanks/dropships/vehicle missile are OP. But a huge oversight is that matches are throwing players from all skill levels together in matches.
We have players who are highly skilled and using equipment and tactics that are fit for 0.0 security battles mixed with players who hardly play and are still using mostly militia gear. This is causing a lot of inaccurate feedback since we, the players have to judge whether the gameplay is balanced when everyone is thrown together like this.
Without some way to split up the player base by skill and equipment how can we judge the balance of high and low quality gear and vehicles? Or is it the plan that once we have proper high and low sec planets players will still be sporting proto gear and vehicles to harvest new players for easy kills?
I'm wondering if you created multiple tiers of ambush and skirmish matches (each having a higher cap on SP and Isk gain) if this would alleviate a lot of the current balance issues. If players could earn twice as much for a tier two skirmish match the players with advanced gear would all move there and you could effectively split high and low skilled players. people with vehicles and forge guns could all duke it out, making for more interesting and rewarding matches for everyone. |

You dont seem to realise the way the matchmaking works, you get put into matches against other low SP players when you start, but as your own SP grows you get put into higher tier matches, after the 2 mil SP mark your being dumped into matches with all the other 2 mil plus players. |

New players with 5-10million sp will be competitive against the older players with near 100 million sp if they have better gun skills and/or fitting skills and/or teamwork. The gap in players for first month will probably be like now, then the difference in sp will matter less. 1mill vs 5 mill is harder then 10mil vs 50mil for the lower sp player, and if they were the same players would be 46mill vs 50 mill.
The beta is exaggerating what the normal sp gape effect will be, which makes it easier to test for ways to reduce it. The sp range we see in builds before reset is when the difference in skills makes the most impact. The benefit per sp gets less pretty quick a little higher then we get in these builds before reset.
We don't have null sec combat level people in this build. I checked Eve forum for low sp null sec, found 5million sp minimum for a lot groups described as low skills required. Dust gets skills faster then EvE, and we are not into the low end of null ready yet. E3 build some people were well over 50-60million sp, back then this would be true. |
