Hi,
Despite forking out for eye/move/gun stuff (yes, I was warned), I am settling into a Keyboard and Mouse setup. However I would like some advice on how best to use the mouse.
I have two 'gaming' mice, each with their own DPI setting. One has one extra setting than the other but both have the same minimum and maximum setting.
Saitek GM3200 Oscar X-748k
I'm trying to work out how to get the best performance from them in the game.
I play around with the DPI setting depending on what I am doing. I normally have it set to 1600, but will increase it when in a turret.
However, I can't work out the balance between this and the 'mouse sensitivity' setting in-game and also the 'smoothing' effect.
One thing that is frustrating and I hope that it doesn't stop some of you answering is using the mouse on a sniper scope sometimes means that I can not place my 'target dot' on someone. Even a tiny movement can push me from missing them on the left to missing them on the right. I have to move my character to enable me to target someone. Of course, doing that as a Sniper means I either get sniped or my target has well disappeared by that point.

Smoothing sucks. You should probably turn it off.
Sensitivity doesn't do anything for me. Whether my mouse sensitivity is 0 or 100 the movement is identical (that is, very, very sensitive).
The precision is also an issue for me when sniping. Like you, with my mouse I can't hit small targets at great distances with mouse movement alone at times. I'll move the mouse, and when the game reads the movement, it suddenly hops enough of a distance that it can totally move past the target.
So yeah, these experiences of yours I can relate to. My mouse is fine for PC FPS games, but Dust needs to improve its mouse support if it intends to achieve CCP's stated goal of making Dust players used to PC FPS games feel right at home.
I have a Logitech MX518. |

Damn.... thought there might be some nice balancing ideas out there.
Have a play around with the DPI settings if you have them. On my lowest setting it really slows the mouse down, probably to much so and on the higher settings the screen will 180 if I move the mouse fast enough.
Only problems I really find with it is when it gets a little laggy and I'm running from incoming fire... I can run one way, hit some lag and find I am now facing my opponent...... and seeing as I am terrible at this game, me being close up = doom.
*EDIT*
Just been googling things about FPS?/DPI etc etc and found an interesting link:

He is talking about BF3 on the PC, but some of the things sound like they might translate over. Gonna give it a go and see what happens. |
