Right now the only thing that changes is sky color and terrain color, but not the actual topography, or outpost configuration in relation to other infrastructure. Dust is suppose to have a random map generator that creates terrains, and fits outposts and other elements on that terrain to create relatively unique maps for thousands of planets. For some reason we only have access to a handful of maps, is the map generator not complete yet, or are we just not going to be testing the terrain generation? Will we ever get to see different and randomized terrain layouts around the outposts? |

I'm guessing that the map generator will not be seen until the official release.
BTW,would you really want to see it in this version of the beta with all of the glitches that it has? Do you really want it to be more broken than it already is.

Actually I would want to see it considering it's something that probably needs to be tested regularly.

It just seems like something we should be able to test, find problems, and offer solutions for. Like the map generator might create maps with too little cover, or too many unclimbable areas. The more testing and feedback we get to provide, the more we can help something improve.
Someone on the IRC gave me an answer, basically the current maps are like constant testing conditions for an experiment. Results of an experiment aren't really reliable if the variables are always tested under different conditions, they have to be tested under the same constant condition to get a good comparison. |

I never heard of this map generator.....can someone post a link with more info on it? I was wondering how they were going to have all of these maps for all of these planets |

What would be a better system, tbh, is to have barren territory until a corporation claims it. And once the corporation claims it, then they can build their own installations and structures on it. CCP can give us choices of default structures and we build our own map.
Then other corps can come and try and seize the territory, etc |

Who knows how much they actually generated- at least one entire district was generated so far, and we only fight on tiny bits of land in that massive district- can't be too hard to just keep using generators once you have one made: more and more games are getting random generators like this, some are so simple that 8 year olds are using them fine (once the generator was made).
I think there are 2 reasons we have so few maps:
- Stability
- Scenario/structure tests (notice that every map uses structures in different ways, and has vastly different terrain/structure combinations)

I agree that it needs to be tested, but not in this build.Only when they move to TQ is it really worth testing at this point.

From what I've heard, that's kind of what's going to happen as far as a corps structures are concerned, and when they get taken out, that will slightly change the map.
As for the random generator, the generator is for each of the 3000 plus planets that we will be fighting for.I think it's in the Fanfest videos that they talk about it.There's going to be something like five temperate planets and every map/planet will be a variation off of each of those five.

Then other corps can come and try and seize the territory, etc I'm hoping that's what it's like. If you would look at different districts closely, you might be able to tell who built what areas- because I would imagine every corp would have a slightly different preferred setup. |

The high and low sec is owned by npc corps, we can affect what faction's npc corps own low sec systems with faction war. Last I heard null won't be available at launch, part of reason is probably to give player corps that own those areas time to place the buildings they want before they start having battles on them. |

The map generator in the beta was in "testing state" there going to add more to mix and match a bunch of different environments. |

when you build a gun, is the first test when you fire it with a live round in the chamber, no you test each part one at a time, then slowly put them all together and keep testing to make sure they work together, only after you are done testing do you do a live fire. |
