http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1U261Lt9V4&feature=g-all-u http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpCUfPuDrOY&feature=g-all-u No, its not about this game, but it brings up some related points that I think we should all keep in mind.
Planetside 2 has people saying it'll fail on launch the same way this game does. Personally, I don't think either will, because both developers are committed to working with us to create a good game.
Planetside 2 has a lot to be worked on, as does Dust, but PS2 looked a lot better to me last night than even a few weeks ago because the community provides good feedback to the Devs, who then integrate the stuff that works.
Like it or not, the onus is on us as a community to help make this game the best it can be. |

the problem with a free to play "evolving" game is that their idea of generating money through "micro" transactions that in ccp's case are disolvable (some are BPO but that won't create returning custom) as well as only provide a go between standard/advanced/proto, which is nice but not gonna bring in as much as we'd like.
for a game that is "never complete" people find that a negative thought such as "I am spending money on an incomplete game, what am I doing?" and more annoyingly, the games companies generally have a very linear approach to these micro transactions.
rather than gaining the profit from micro transactions, companies should think out of the box and see how they can get third parties into the game without turning it into a **** storm of advertisement. The main issue is micro transactions are not reliable and on top of that, yes a game will never be finished, but people learn to accept a game for what it is at a silver line in their experience with it.
Subscriptions weren't for everyone, microtransactions are just as bad. they both fall on player.
Launch the game when the core is solid and then build on top of it.
at the moment I consider the FPS / economy aspect of this game core and everything else can be adjusted. People complain about it being op? always going to happen. New feature? always going to happen. Bugs from new featuers? that's right.
I personally think there are only a few bugs in the core of the game left (hit detection for some weapons still present, bugs in maps and some minor freezing) everything else from menu efficiency to speed of a swarm launcher, will always be prevelant to someone and a lot of people will find this game isn't for them. Just happens. |
