I am still relatively new to Dust, but have been playing games for many years and am far from incompetent. Searched the forums for this, didn't find anything. If there's an existing thread please let me know.
Ok, so I was upgrading my assault class to use heavy machine guns, and under the "requirements" tab it says:
Items Requirements
Weaponry Level IV 87,060 SP Heavy Machine Gun Operation level 1 12,440 SP 99,000 ISK
I automatically took this as I needed 87,060 SP to ACHIEVE level IV, along with the SP/ISK requirements for HMGO lvl 1 so I can start using heavy machine guns. And I thought, "wow, this is cool, I can see the total cost of SP/ISK it will take to use a heavy mg, and I can see my unallocated SP and current ISK right above it to compare. Nice layout!
BUT NOPE, it's telling me Weaponry Level IV itself costs 87,060 SP. I'm at level 1 weaponry: WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW THE COST OF LEVEL 4 ITSELF? This was to buy a heavy machine gun level one. My feedback:
Under the requirements tab, show the TOTAL AMOUNT required for me to achieve level IV weaponry! I basically screwed myself and only have 40,000 SP left because of a really bizarre layout decision. Instead of 87,060 SP it should have said 188,000 SP as that was what I REALLY needed to have SP wise to attain level IV.
This wouldn't be such a huge deal, but it seems like I'm going to have to play another 100 ambushes to be able to get enough SP to use a heavy machine gun. Very backwards.
General feedback: The weapon/skill upgrades should be a little more user friendly/clearer.
Example: The skillbook by "weaponry level IV" on my character has a green check. To a new gamer, this would say "oh my weaponry must be at level IV right now, so I've accomplished that particular requirement because it has a green check." While IIIIIIIII know what it means is, "you have this particular skillbook, but you may or may not be at this required level." Maybe just put another icon by the skillbook so I can see immediately what level I'm at within that skillbook, without having to go all the way back to my character's skill page. This would be very easy to implement. |

+1 to showing the total requirements, that would vastly improve the market layout (which is new this build so no surprise it needs some polish beyond the first iteration :) ).
Also the system in EVE for skill requirements would work here as well in my view. Green Check = requirement met. Yellow ring = skill possessed but not trained to the required level. Red x = skill untrained/requirements for training in that skill not met.

This is a very good point, and I agree it would help everyone.
Also I'd like to point out to CCP, it's not just the new players who have to get used to this system, but I had to bend my brain a little to get used to the 'Dust way' of things, and I am already used to how EVE works lol.
For instance, in eve there are S-mall, M-ed, L-arge weapons at the bottom range of things. For a while I kept looking at the L slot thinking it was Large so i could put a heavy weapon into it, S meaning small of course . . . Since I only had the starter assault suits, and one of them seemed to have a heavy weapon "swarm launcher" already on it-- i had no idea why i couldn't fit my heavy MG-- i thought is might be a bug. - so i started saving up SP for a caldari heavy suit skill - It was pure accident that i discovered there was such a thing as a MILITIA heavy suit, that had a different kind of slot i never seen before. - So L is a "small" weapon, and S is sidearm which is also small but a different kind of small...!?! Yuck, live and learn lol. |

Actually the way it works is the lit skill book show that you own it. The green check mark tell you that you can skill up in it. It is only when you see the skill levels to the right are you actually apply SP to the skill to increase its rank. So, just because you have the green light, it doesn't mean you have begun the process.
I do understand your pain, yet step back, leave you expectations behind, and see it for what it is in the context of the game. And be an inquisitive human being and dabble in the tutorial. It would save you a lot of frustration. That is why it is there. |
