I got thinking about what will happen after corps start controlling planets and such.
if you had a base on one continent on a planet could you physically drive/fly you way across hundreds of miles of terrain to get to you other base/mine/any other installation?
it would add some depth to the game and make it more challenging.
I can just imagine a regiment of tanks charging across a tundra towards one of these shipyards or something that has been taken over by an enemy corporation.
it would force you to use team work because if you don't you're gonna be running for a long time.
it would sorta be like in eve when one of the planets in your sector which you control comes under attack and you have to travel a few thousand light years to fight of the attackers.
and i know what most of you are going to say "there are FTL drives in eve which allows you to travel vast distances in short amounts of time or by jumping through a wormhole"
now you could just as easily have a form of *gate/or teleport device* which will instantly move you and your equipment the the other end.
any thoughts? |

It would be cool, but I don't think the game would be able to handle that. yet.
However, with the huge districts, you can bet that sortof like you said, teamwork will be crucial for getting where you need to be- Not only would LAVs and dropships get someone WAAAAY over to the other edge of the district fairly quickly, but people who use more short-range weapons (such as shotguns, HMGs, and ARs to a point) will probably be depending on their transports to get them across the deadly expanse between structures they can take cover in. |

I doubt the PS3 could handle that. |

the ps3 could easily handle it, the cell microprocessor. it's the reason the u.s. air force used ps3s as a base for a supercomputer

My vision with Dust is that the whole planet is the map.
Let say it was 125 VS. 125.
If my team completely dominated one district, but another district is in need of assistance, I should be able to fly a Dropship over to that district to help out. |

Im gonna be the down here and say...
Guys, look at the issues this beta has now, CCP already has taken a BIG bite, let it chew this out for about a year before throwing these types of gamechangers down. I dont see it being likely, ever, that CCP will do this on a PS3, maybe PS4, who knows.
This is an interesting idea, but there are also a lot of counters to it i wont get into it right now, but more on the technical end ill just say lag and server space to say the very, very least. Even gameplay issues you got to balance it out with too.
Its a cool idea, but dont get your hopes up, and if CCP did do this or make a move to do it within this year you'd prob choke the baby that is Dust 514. |

Districts are already ridiculously big as they are, stop being greedy
EDIT: Although, CCP built their terrain generator to be scalable, if they wanted to, they could easily generate the entire planet. The only issue would be the poor level designers that have to make the planet sized maps (and, you know, the god-awful game play that would come with maps that size) |
