Whatever happened to it? Was it removed for temporarily or for some other purpose? Or did it run away to the circus just like all of my old pets?
For those of you who don't know which map i'm talking about its the long skinny one with only one MCC. I miss the whole "capture the base" feel to those maps compared to running around just capping letters. |

The actual map is still there, they just changed it from attack/defend to destroy opposing MCC and made them stationary. |

I really liked the old map style and i wish it would return ,
CCP says it was biased in favor of the defender but i consider that a good thing after all should be harder to attack than defend as the defenders have time to prepare and pick ground .
I don't like the idea of attacking a planet or region and both sides meeting on equal ground this feels less like attacking and more like just a fancy version of TDM .
The old map gave a much better feeling of a actual battle with progression and definite goals and less like the maps we have now which are just endless running in circles capping objectives due to the maps being to big .
Why can we not have maps where the defender has all the ground to start with and the attacker has to i dono.... attack !
As we are now what difference is there in battle from being attacker or defender ?
Would this not add variety to the game with different strategy being used in defense attack
If ccp feels the maps we have are not suitable for this then give us back the old style map which after all connected to any other map .
Or even make it so the first battle on a planet must be the old style attack map .
When i zoom out in game and see the whole huge map the idea of having to fight thro each separate section at a time gives me a warm trouser feeling .
The games we have now are very short imagine a 2 hour slugfest as u push deeper and deeper in to the map capping facilitys that help cap the rest of the map or fight off eve grefers . |

I second this whole thread! I loved the old map style. I actually felt the attackers had an advantage. If you were able to break through the first section before half your MCC's shields were gone, it was almost guaranteed your MCC would dock.
I personally loved this play style. It made the battles more realistic and is what I'm hoping Dust will become when corps actually have planetary control and have to set up and buy defenses to protect their sector.
Also it was always an awesome feeling when you broke their first line of defense and then could rush the base. |

would be cool to see that style come back, even better if it was a longer map with more core and even secondary objectives. |

It makes absolutly no sense why one team/corporation would come out of its defenses. I like the Rush style gameplay, makes it more fun and strategic, instead of a CoD style of play. |

if more people supported my post about making MCCs optional...
See this map only had one MCC. So why not make ambush a map when neither player sends in a MCC, old skrimish map for when only the attackers have an MC, and skrimish for when both players have an MCC.
Defensive MCCs would require a MCC to attack that district |

Two stage skirmish maps are not comming back, they favored the defender too much.
If you don't see exactly why you should consider the cost of losing an MCC, that can be easily up to a quarter billion gone per loss. |

Well isn't that the point of defending? It is not supposed to be easy, it is supposed to be a challenge. I never found it "unfair", you just had to know that if the defenders are doing X I have to do Y to counter that, but if they switch tactics than I had to as well. In my opinion, it was a much more enjoyable and tactical expierience, that actually used some teamwork. |

Cut your quote short but I agree. I still enjoy the current maps but there is no difference between being the defender and being the attacker now.

I liked that map. There were plenty of flat-topped boulders for me to jump across as a super-fast scout. |

And now there are two on the skirmish maps... so ... what was your point?
IMO the defender should have the advantage... they are defending their district/planet.
Let's not forget that Dust will not be in Faction Warfare for ever... if it is... I will walk away from it.
That being said... the old map / gameplay style was much more in line with what one would expect in terms of holding sov of a district and defending it from attack.
The current skirmish gameplay is a variation of it... but with much less of a campaign feel to it.
You lose much of the immersion factor and makes taking sov of districts so easy... why would you waste time defending it? Just go attack other ones.
In the end this style of gameplay will lead to corps just attacking as many districts a day as possible, never defending the ones they got. The most successful corps would be the ones capable of attacking more districts than they are losing per hour.
The result of which is a bunch of bloated corps that are all out doing massive land grabs versus randoms because no one is defending their own property.
Pub stomping across New Eden High Sec will get old very fast and Dust will lose a lot of momentum on both KEY fronts... 1 is the Corp/Clan camp and the other is the random new guy.
Corps will be bored, randoms will be sick of getting stomped.
"But Stylie the q-logic is designed to stop Prototype equipped mercs from facing militia gear randoms"
Sure, but you just keep one slot that you delete every few days, grind some core skills and use it to stomp noobs, take the cash donate to the corp and delete it again.
And I am talking about Faction Warfare (High Sec) and Null Sec.
If they don't have the map game play mechanics right... corps will naturally do what is easy.
CCP would have to take drastic measures to ensure that my land grab theory does not become a reality under our current set of gameplay mechanics. |
