I've been playing pretty much at the first stages of the beta some month ago and I was very impressed. The game was fun an there was alot of potential. alot of bugs, glitches and issues too but hey! It's a beta. Now some time has passed and for the last couple of days I took another look at the beta and I thought it might be interesting how I feel the game has changed
To make it short: It's no fun
To make it a little longer:
The maps suck. All of them. Some suck little less, some more but "good" is something else. Horribly long walkways, way too much open space, useless hills, no real paths, no lines of combat. Everyone can come from everywhere everytime. That results in total chaos on the map and there's almost no teamplay (finding more then 2 ppl running to the same direction is pretty hard). Also there are almost no objects. How about some grass? Or plants? Trees, boxes, destroyed vehicles, ruins, maybe small buildings? The only thing these maps got plenty is sniper spots. They are EVERYWHERE. Couldn't be much more boring and annoying.
There's alot more weaponary available and thats very cool but Assault Rifles? Damn those things are unrealistic overpowered and completely useless at the same time. No recoil at all, shooting a hundret bullets in a straight line and hit the target at the exact moment I hit the trigger but at some point increased gravitiy takes over and all bullets seem to fall on the ground on a 90 degree angle. No way to guess how far you can shoot (there might be something about range in the description but I cant guess 150 meter on a battlefield) Next thing: Forge Guns. Drivin a basic jeep+gunner around a map, meeting some infantry. Gunner opens fire and the guy in the heavy armor takes 3 direct hits, his armor somewhere around 25% and then he onehits the jeep. Great -.- At least those annoying swarm launcher seem to be nerfed. Or ppl got tired of using them.
Gamepad controls somehow feel worse and less direct then before, especially with vehicles. Did you manage to increase lag and performance issues? How? Couldn't try out flying yet but as far as I can tell from watching the birds crashing... Not to mention the onikuma movement. It's like driving a car made of pudding. Aaaand the ladders are a joke, right? April fools, yeah you got me.
Physics are ridiculus. Driving on a tiny hill, jumpin and turning around like it was a trampoline. Crashed into a soldier and a rock, came to a full stop, soldier lives and shoots me. I wasnt driving at top speed but it still felt weird.
Lag.... is okay I guess. I have seen worse.
Graphics are still not okay. Apart from the guns everything looks horrible like a game from early 2003.... so there's no change to the beta that I played before. Was hoping for some improvement at this point. Funny thing is the fog: I cant see a mountain, but I see every detail of the soldiers running on top of it. Another thing that wasn't improved is the performance. The way the game looks and feels it should run on constant 60FPS on that crappy PS3 Hardware and I believe the PS3 got a framelock at 30(?)
Market runs alot(!) better Big thumbs up here, well done. Now I dont bite my controller every time i accidently hit the "variants" tab in a items describtion. I also like the direct links to skills at each category/Item. Awesome work, very good!
The Starmap is pretty cool but I find it hard to navigate precisely. Regions are okay but constellations, systems and planets get tricky (or I'm doing something wrong). If there was a list of objects (consts, systems, plantes) you can use to navigate by just pressing up and down or a cursor to pinpoint the location you want to look at...
Cant say much about tanks since I cant drive them yet - but one million isk for the skill? holy ****. making 40-70k each match and about 15k profit - thats gonna take a while. No wonder you dont see those things so often.
I was pretty disappointed to see that there's still no amarr or minmatar stuff around. Any Idea when this will come?
In conclusion I can say: Well there are some big improvements and everyone can see that it's an active work in progress but compared to the time that has passed the progress is minimal and there's still a ton of stuff to do. So much actually that I didn't knew what to start with. When I look at this game sometimes I wish CCP would have paid some experienced FPS Studio at least for the purpose of giving advice. Never saw a beta forum this crowded (well often betas are promo - but still...) |

If they don't care than you shouldn't care. My best advice is just beta test till Christmas and your parents or girlfriend buys you a new game, if your younger. Or save up till cyber Monday and buy a real FPS when the bigger titles will be released with at least 1 patch already out.
From the traffic in the forums you can tell that the FPS community has just walked out on this beta. Nothing on the FPS side has been fixed, but yet the forum posts for it have decreased by around 90 percent. Last week the forums were talking about player numbers decreasing.
CCP you did have a deadline, you had to prove to FPS players that your game was better or improving before the upcoming FPS line up this year of about 10 games. Usually a FPS doesn't die of a stab wound but death from 1000 paper cuts. Now you can scream beta all you want but it doesn't explain the direction this game is going. Console games are reviewed and rated on day 1 code not with patches because of the history of console gaming where there was no internet, information was in a cartridge.
To Eve players if nothing is a bug or unbalanced in this beta "its complexity" can we release this game tomorrow for judging?
Ive never bought a Call of Duty game in my life, but because of Dust progress I'm seriously thinking about buying Black Ops 2. |
