If there is one thing that flying in Planetside 2 makes me do on a continuous basis, its lament the half-plane half-helicopter light aircraft in that game. In my experience, they're usable, but don't really excel at either role, and their stupidly low speed makes them childishly easy to kill.
I know everyone loves to talk about reality being bad for gameplay, but we have attack helicopters and fighter aircraft as separate entities for a reason. You really can't make one aircraft that performs both roles adequately. Hell, the X-50 program tanked, and that was only aimed at making a helicopter that could fly farther and faster.
I would highly recommend that these two types of aircraft not be combined, and that we have a unique and capable asset for each of the roles they would fill. Additionally, could we get a more responsive version of the Precursor Dropship flight mechanic for Gunships? Pulling loops in Dropships was silly, but fun, and some of my favorite memories of BF2142 were of gunning for the Gunships in that game with how maneuverable they were. |

There are so many vehicles we haven't seen yet. Fighter jets are just one of them, bombers are another. Consider the "icon map" on the help screens. It distinguishes between light, medium and heavy vehicles, ground and aerial. So far we have only seen the light aerial vehicles (empty triangle icon), and on the ground we've only seen lights (empty diamond shape) and heavy (full diamond shape).
Dropships in this classification, are flying LAV's. |

I was surprised when I noticed that, as I had expected them to be light aircraft.
To the OP, dropships fill a transport helicopter type role, and gunships and fighters have already been confirmed (fighters at least, not entirely sure about gunships). |

would be nice if the fighters was EVE players coming down in destroyers... that would be awsome. |

The smallest ships in EVE, frigates, are about the size of the MCC. There are drones that could only be about the size of an LAV, but there's no reason to believe they're atmosphere capable.
Now, we probably won't see jet aircraft like we know them today. Reason being DUST aircraft are designed to work on any planet, including ones with little or no atmosphere. Fixed wing aircraft need atmosphere to generate lift, but vector thrust aircraft like DUST's dropships do not. So even our gunships, bombers and, (though I can't imagine them actually being implemented) fighters will probably use the same flight physics as the dropship.
You can actually see a gunship briefly in this video. One flies by at around :49 and another flies around the corner at :51 and blows up a HAV. |

See, the only issue with that is that I'm pretty sure its the exact same model as the Fighter aircraft they show in the stage demo, which is why I'm somewhat afraid that they might just make combo aircraft.
Honestly, the MCC should be larger than it currently is if it's going to feasibly hold all the assets we bring down to a fight. I'm well aware that with 10 vehicle classes currently planned, there's quite a bit of room for expansion, but I'm hoping having properly designed aerial vehicles is in the cards as well.
On an unrelated note, if they put in that jet-bike type vehicle that Vince used in Templar One, and that the "Speeder" option in the vehicle menu of the 2009 build seems to hint at, I hope they make that the free vehicle rather than LAVs.
EDIT: Yeah, I just looked closely, and that is definitely the Gallente Figther from the stage demo. |

If not longer :)
The MCC is about 200m in length if I recall. In EVE that is small https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10561661/DUST%20MCC%20size.jpg |

The smallest frigates, basically the Amarr are about 70-80m long. The large frigates are Caldari and Minmattar, those are around 100m long, and the minmatar around 130m on the Rifter if I remember. Destroyers are between 223m and 288m long for the current lot of em. Cruisers are anywhere from 220m to 560ish meters. Battle cruisers tend to be around the same lengths as a lot of cruisers but much more massive in size.
And food for thought. That Ferox that passes in the foreground at the beginning of the video is 505m Long. So that gives you some perspective as to how large the war barge is going to be. My guess is pretty close to the size of a mother ship, or close to the size of a titan. Since Titans are up to about 18km long well, you get the picture.
And that ship size poster is out of date. In game data for the ferox is 505m for example |

Yeah, and we've already seen that it carries at least two MCCs. Getting back to the original subject though, I also made a thread recently on an idea for "jet" implementation to really deliver a unique and enjoyable experience if they can pull it off. The concept is mostly Grit_Breather's, and I just added some of my own ideas from our discussion to it. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=42514&find=unread |
