Hi, I play with KB/M from its release. I have notice that verry often there is micro freeze(for 4-5 frame may be) when I am trying to turn, verry often its appear in the beggining of every game, as though PS3 trying to put environment in its memory before starting going smootly, but it happen in the proces of the game. First I didnt take care a lot, but I die several times becasue when I trying to point an enemy, micro freezes brake all my efforts. I was suspicious that it happens becasue of some lag, so I connect PS3 with cable(till than it was wi-fi), but it didnt change anything.
I hope it shall be helpfull. I am playing with Cyborg RAT 5 mouse, if it mean something. |

I was getting micro freezes last night for several maps just before DT.
I only use a keyboard and dual shock. Doubt if the problem is kb/m to be honest. More like minor server lag. |

Last I heard it has to do with a memory leak with the new weather effects and/or maps but it's a known issue. No word on when it will be fixed but CCP would probably say, "Soon." Some people have said restarting the game every few matches helps with the problem but I get frame skips pretty much every single game no matter what. |

I sometime get micro freeze, and some on the most annoying moments, when I turn and face a enemy that starts fire on me. It's like the game try to cache something (maybe some textures ?). |

I get the same thing when the map is loading for the first time. I always start the match out with free dropsuits just because I know as soon as someone starts shooting at me and I whip the mouse around, my screen is going to chop and I am going to die.
It also seems to happen a lot more when I play for extended periods. |

I'm constantly seeing this when I'm in a sniper mode. Zoom in "Freeze!" When it catches up the person is 10 miles(Exaggerating) from where you zoomed in at. It's a little annoying... |

These micro freezes are starting to **** me off. Now when every time I zoom in on anything I'm on it'll freeze for a a 10th of a second. Giving the other player advantage of shooting the hell out of you before you can even respond. >>> UGH! I died again. Hold on, it froze. Wait, I'm dead again. <<< REPEAT |

I posted in another thread before about this - I get the same thing. I swapped my HDD for a SSD, and this went away almost entirely.
You can force this to go down a bit by zooming in all the way before spawning as well, as it forces some texture load ahead of time.
No luck if you're in a vehicle though, even SSDs falter here. |

Lot of rage i see here. Micro freezes still make me mad. It is realy bad when you see almost dead enemy, who need one shot to die and when you move mouse on him, micro freeze appear and in next moment your enemy is behind some obstacles. I miss a lot of kills in that manner. Half a second(or less) is difference between that to be dead or alive
So CCP, we know it is beta. The problem we discuss here is major, you must focus on it for next patch. Do it please. Smooth playing is more important than graphics and other stuff. And you`ll save to you a lot troubles in future. |

This is definitely the worst technical problem in the game at the moment, it happens at least a few times a match for me, often directly leading to 1 or 2 deaths. It's almost unbearable in dropships where microstutters and freezes can occur every few seconds, leaving me stranded in midair and at the mercy of forge gunners and swarms. With some of these freezes lasting up to 5 seconds, it's the cause of the majority of my dropship deaths. |

This is a problem that's not going to go away any time soon, and you can thank the choice of engine for that. The real question here is why, six years into the PS3's lifespan, and innumerable examples of Unreal Engine games with mediocre performance on PS3, the Dust devs chose to use Unreal as a base for their game. It's basically damned the game from the start, and all the tweaking and tucking and post-alpha effort will at best patch it up to being a flawed port of a game that was NEVER ON ANY OTHER PLATFORM.
Look at every other technically advanced PS3 exclusive game and you'll see that the thing they all have in common is engines written specifically for the console. It's a very different architecture to the 360 and PC, and basing an exclusive on Unreal is a compromise from day one.
I can only assume that either they were hedging their bets on porting it if it took off (or even if it bombed), or they just lacked the confidence to build for the console from the ground up. Either way, without a miracle, it's damn near doomed what could have been a very interesting, and more widely accepted, successor to MAG. |

I have Unreal 3 for PS3, and it goes verry well without that micro freezes. I dont know is the problem is unreal engine. i think in earlier version of beta there isn't micro freezes. I think it is something different from engine know isues. I hope CCP Games shall solve the problem. right? |

Well, the Unreal Engine was of course made for Unreal. The problem is not that the engine is fundamentally broken, but that it's marketed as a super flexible and wide-ranging solution to anyone's game dev problems. It's not. It's very efficient at producing a certain type of game, and uses a lot of smoke and mirrors to reach that goal, but if you start pushing the engine away from its strict original spec of pretty but ultimately static scenarios to play around in, the cracks start to show, and those cracks are made worse by it then being exported to the least efficient platform for it, the PS3.
The real worry is that this is all super core-level stuff. You can trim, mould and poke the game for months or even years, and they're probably going to, but without someone reaching right into the guts and changing the beating heart of it, Dust will just be piling more layers of paint onto the rot.
I mean, it shouldn't need to be pointed out by anyone that a game with stakes as high as Dust, where people in a whole other game can win or lose based on the actions of one match, it is absolutely unsuitable for any kind of release when firefights and sometimes entire matches can be decided on the frequent stuttering and churning of a game engine.
(Just so we're clear, I've noticed many people mistaking this churn for network-related lag. It's not. If your game remains smooth but non-static objects like players and tanks are teleporting around, that's lag. If EVERYTHING freezes, including your controls, that's an engine that simply can't keep up.) |

I see what you mean. A corpmate upgrade his PS3 with a SSD and report that the microfreezes are lower in number now. But it is not a descsion for me. And I will remember again that in this summer, in earlier distribution of beta there isn't such things like micro frezzes, so there is something that make that stupid bug. I hope CCP shall find it and remove it. I realy hope its shall be done soon |
