Air vehicles will be annoying later on (I can see in the future, as I'm a boss ). Even now, a transport vehicle is op, so infintry and land vehicles need a counter. AA anyone?
The SAM missile pod could be used as the AA weapon in the game, as CCP doesn't want, and frankly nobody wants a versitle weapon in the game (other than the AR, but weall know that noise ). The SAM missile pod would be a fire and guide launcher that moves faster than the swarm launcher (at stand still, it would reach a dropship from the lowest point of a small map in about 5 1/4 seconds, and the proto could reach in 4 1/4.) and would do more damage than the entire missile swarm, but would only have one missile. It would come in 2 forms:
Superlight: If you know me, and seen my threads, then you know what my superlight class vehicle weapons. This would be one of these superlight weapons. This one could only attach to the Jets, gunships, and MTAC. al you do is equip the SAM gun, and press R1, aand it fires. then, you guide it to the target. Think of the guided missle from BF3, but better handling.
Equipment: It would look like the SAM launcher in MW3, but when you want to use it, you pull out a iPad-like device that when you click R1, it pulls up the screen, and if you hold R1 for like 2 seconds, it will launch the missile. Same flight controls as the Superlight turret. The Equipment variant has more power than the Superlight, because (unless they change how putting equipment down changes, but won't really help) you have to take it out, and if you have this on, it slows you down by suit class (scout goes to logi, logi goes to assault, assault goes to heavy), and when you put it down, then you could fire it.
I'm not counting this as a variant, as it's not a missile, but what if we could get like a AA HMG-like instulation? Sounds cool to me, plus they're IRL, so they make sense.
Please don't rage at me if this seems stupid to you. Lately, there has been people like that, and it's annoying. Be reasonable, K? And sorry for spelling errors, as I'm typing this at 11:00 PM. |

Currently, better anti-air would be a godsend!
But fighters and other aircraft haven't been implemented yet and it wouldn't be smart to assume they'll be that much of a problem. I say we should keep our anti-air ideas in our back pockets until we see what these aircraft can do. And if these aircraft do become a problem then I say we should brain storm anti-air options.

It's always good to brainstorm ideas beforehand, so that CCP can produce the proper counters alongside fighters and other future air vehicles.
I find issue with the SAM being an "equipment" device. This is because it would be comparable to the Swarm launcher, and in fact might make a good sub-type of the Swarm.
Now for the other races, as that is clearly Caldari: >Amarr: Take a look at this Wikipedia article. Take all the time in the world to drool. Now when your finished, amp up that PASS weapon tenfold, and implement a lock-on. Viola', you now have a beautiful anti-air system. >Gallente: plasma bees. a swarm of micro-bots that surround the target, then outgas copious amounts of plasma. Gives a "poison" effect. >Minmatar: An artillery cannon that shoots small gun barrels. those turrets get near the target, then rotate towards it mid-air to fire a Titanium Sabot round. "Yo Dawg!" |

I like the idea of dedicated AA installations. SAM, flak, or long range rapid fire small blaster quads. |
