I don't see anyone ever needing to train the proficiency skill for sidearm reloading. The regular skill is already borderline useless, at least training it to V seems to me to be useless. But the proficiency skill I feel has no point to train it and is a complete waste. |

I haven't looked at the sidearm times yet, or how much it will lower it, but since it's a sidearm, Iknow it's usless. BUT, if your going aginst a guy with the same gun, and you both have to reload, then you will most likely win that fight. |

We like useless things, it makes us feel special to have them, particularly when we're done collecting useful things.
And when I'm running my swarm launcher fittings I always have to rely on a sidearm and melee attack for defense against infantry, a faster reload really can mean life or death in some cases -- particularly when you have less experienced FPS players fighting.
P.S.
Also useless:
Chocolate sprinkles on chocolate frosted doughnuts. The hole they put in the middle of a doughnut Doughnut holes themselves. Pixie Sticks AV Grenades when your opponent doesn't call in vehicles Proto gear when you spend the entire match riding in a tank Drop uplinks that are being camped |

I don't know the exact numbers at the moment, but training it to lvl V would be something a little less than 2 tenths of a second shaved. I pointed this out in the hopes that maybe CCP could replace it by something more useful. |

Ah well, at least I haven't invested many points. |

Each 10th of a second adds up as you train more skills, and while each one might feel insignificant, you never know which one might be the one that saves you. There are many situations where a contest was won by a fraction of a second, and if you're gearing your abilities and skills toward capitalizing on every second of the match -- then the rapid reload skills make sense for you -- particularly if you've already gotten all of the other skills you need to capitalize on your damage potential. |

I draw the line at making fun of Pixie Sticks! (Although I almost joked on one as a kid, all that dry powder shot down my throat all at once. lol) |

I feel like the OP is missing one important fact about this game that will alter his view about this "useless skill."
Think down the line to when DUST has been in release for quite a while. CCP is looking to provide skills that will, way down range, provide a way for extremely skilled players to get the edge on eachother. Having a reload speed of 1/4 second might be all you need to take down an opponent who takes 1/2 seconds to reload.
Also, you ignore your side arm's usefullness at your own risk. Scrambler pistols are hugely powerful CC weapons and SMGs when at high levels can mess up a proto suit very quickly. Switching to these weapons is often quicker than reloading thus the but once they are empty reload speed is key. |

Also, Mobius is right These "advanced" skills are for the long term hardcore players, not us young pups but the wolves we will become. There will be a day when a fraction of a second will spare you a 10 second respawn delay. |

I had the adv skill trained to to lv3 3 in e3 build. There were many times 1 vs 1 we would both be reloading, I had many kills when my gun was ready to fire first. After launch I will probably have it trained to 4 before bothering to train for proto drop suits.
If a skill is junk or gold can just be a matter of playstyle. some people will never train skills some couldn't imagine not training right away. |

Fair enough. These are all valid points and it seems I'm in the minority on this one.
Only point of contention is I never said sidearms, more specifically pistols, were useless. I run with an HMG most of the time and with its limited range and 8 second reload time I get almost as many kills with my pistol as I do with my HMG.
By changing the pistol skill to add an additional round to the clip per level CCP made me forgive them for a lot of things. One of their better decisions this build.
