Not sure if this is how it works In Dust. (I have to do some more research.) In Eve the smaller the sig radius then the harder it is for someone to hit you. Such as if you have shield mods that will make you a little bigger (shields extend around you) the better your skills the better off you are in combat.

Thanks for your responses, is anyone here able to clarify which one it is since I've got two definitions? |

No, it doesn't work like this. As others have said, it relates to how easily enemy sensors detect you and put a red arrow above you. |

Not easily, how far. If you are far enough no one will ever see your red icon... but if you r near the enemy, he will see your icon for sure. It only reduce the visibility of your icon on distance and e.g how far away your are from the enemys sight. |

My experience has been completely contradictory to this.
I am at Drop suit command IV, and Signature dampening III, I have noticed a drastic decrease in the amount of missile damage i take aswell.
It should also remove your radar blip on the map, which i have no seen it effect so much. |

Someone once told me it decreased the amount of time before you would disappear from enemy radar once you were seen there. Seems nobody really knows. |

Reducing missile (splash?) damage makes sense as much as the red icon bit, because in EVE the lower the sig radius the less damage you will take from missiles and the harder you generally are to lock onto and hit. |

I have a scout class with this also and I gota say you may be onto somthing. Sure its does make it harder to be detected but it seems it may do more.
We could just be imagining it tho no way to tell. |

In a similar situation. If I get shot at i'm pretty sure the damage is about the same, but I definitely tend to get ignored a lot more. If running in a group with a shotty scout, its extremely easy to get in close. |

It doesn't only work like that in Eve. In Eve; it also relates to scanning as well. It determines how easy it is to use probes to find you:
