So we have diminishing returns currently, and it eventually ends up with you earning 0 SP per match once you hit the cap, yes? I just thought maybe we could remove the cap, keep the diminishing returns, but stop the diminishing at a certain point. Say I make 15k SP per game, five games later I'm making 10k, then five more later I'm making 5k. What if it stopped diminishing at the 5k point? It would be a small enough amount that grinders couldn't gain a massive lead over casuals, but still give them a moderate sum of SP for their hard work. The point could be set lower if you thought 5k is too much, but I think that's a respectable amount. Keep in mind that I mean 5k should be the maximum amount you can earn, if you do poorly in a game, you will still earn less than that. Thoughts? |

The problem isnt in Dust its in the EVE dust combination. Presumably at some point dust players will be allowed to get involved with industry, and when we are, we will have access to many of the skills that EVE players also have access to, like Planetary interaction.
In order to prevent Dust players from being able to over-take EVE players by hyper-grinding and getting more skill points then even a perfectly specialized EVE player could ever hope to get, CCP needs to set a SP cap. Otherwise the only other option is to remove Dust players from industry.
I know a number of pure FPS players wouldn't mind the latter option, and their opinions are fine, but it counters what this game is about which is not just shooting but the larger meaning in terms of both economy and resources. As such they couldn't remove Dust industrial involvement without compromising the deeper game. So Dust players absolutely CANNOT be allowed to acquire skill more skill points then an optimized EVE player. Hence the cap.
I don't think the cap should go away, it makes perfect sense, and I hope the majority understand its need. That being said, decreasing Dust required skills sp cost, and decreasing the amount of SP gained so it takes longer to get to that cap, and diminishing returns can be 'lengthened' to be less notable is an option. But I'll bet more players would hate that, so I think right now they have the balance just about right. |
