After reading a few threads on people having difficulty with the passengers or driver of the vehicle they're in, it occurred to me that it would make perfect sense in game if you automatically got an open mic channel when you entered a vehicle.
--The dropship pilot can tell everyone to jump when he's over a cap point -- or about to get SL'd out of the sky
--The HAV gunners can coordinate their fire
--I can apologise to whoever jumps in my LAV because I can't drive that thing for kitten. :p |

Do what ahead of time? Add the people who've hopped into a vehicle to your contacts list, leave the squad you're automatically assigned to, create a new squad, then invite the people in the vehicle to join the squad?
I am definitely too lazy to do that, haha. Also I don't want to take 5 minutes to start using a vehicle. :p |

Or fly with your squad and ignore the blue dots and you don't have to leave your squad to make a new chat channel genius |

That's fine if you've squadded up before starting the battle, assuming everyone in your squad wants to be in the vehicle, but it doesn't always work that way. For instance, you might have a sniper who's better off taking the high ground to give the rest of the squad feedback, or otherwise have different objectives in different areas. Or, if you've joined a game in progress, you might be in a squad by yourself.
Regardless, there are lots of ways you might find yourself in a vehicle with players not in your own squad. |

The fact that the only thing a dropship can do effectively is transport troops and work as a light gun boat, which both depend on other players. It needs a specialty to define it's self, and the same for the lav |

A good point. They're a bit like vehicle versions of the scout suit. I think the dropship in particular won't really be useful until we have much bigger maps to fight over.
Still, I think any vehicle will be more effective if the people in it have an easy way to communicate, regardless of if they're in the same squad. |
