Okay, there is a 90% chance someone has requested this before, but I would like to reiterate it: it would be very nice to have some kind of name-change feature in the game.
The main reason comes down to that **** happens, especially when you're trying to figure out the game itself in those first few screens as you start a profile, and one thing leads to another and you end up with a name you didn't intend without any way of fixing it.
My recommendation: 1 free name change per year and a small-AUR and/or massive-ISK cost for additional name changes. Cap the rate of change at 1 per month and link friends/blocks to the player profile and not the name itself. |

People who purposefully **** over their corp should not be able to change their name. And the idea of giving people free name changes in particular is ludicrous. |

I fall into the "everybody get's one" category. At least one name change should be allowed. And unlike EVE, there's very little reason to backstab your corp in Dust as of yet. |

If you don't like your name right after you make a character, delete the character and make a fresh one with the better name. No big deal.
But if after a few months or more of playing you don't like it, the gaming community around you will still have gotten to know and recognize the name, and you. Changing the name at this point destroys part of the idea of taking responsibility for your actions in a persistent universe, which Dust will be sharing upon release. At this point, either continue on with your name and be proud, or bio-mass yourself and start over.
Even for forum use, the consistent names are useful for a sense of community.
Maybe yes on changing 'features' of the forum avatar [if we eventually get any options], but not a name change.

No, it really shouldn't be allowed. Accountability is a big thing in these games. People should not even get one get-out-of-jail-free card. Figure out a name you like at the outset, and accept that that's your identity in the game. If you absolutely must use a different name, then make a new character and hope the people you've betrayed didn't pay attention to your PSN ID.
And yeah, "as of yet". |

maybe to make both sides happy, in the character information sheet, there could be a category called, Aliases.
Basically, it shows you all the previous names of that character. If you cap the limit at 1 per year, it will still be easy to track people as they wont have 13,000 different names you need to filter through and it will still make people happy who want to be associated with a new name.
I see this option as allowing both sides to be happy.
Edit: I also agree accountability is a good idea and I wouldn't advocate for a "get-out-of-jail-free" card... |

Your alias is your character name. Your actual ID is your PSN ID that people can see if they look at your details. The price of changing your alias is losing all your SP and assets.
At the very most, name changes that are time restricted by a year or longer and cost $20 - 30 worth of AUR might be okay. Free name changes are seriously a ridiculous concept though. |
