I've gotten to play a few matches as squad leader and test out the order wheel, so here are my thoughts:
Please Streamline: I don't see a practical use for attack, defend and capture commands. If anything, it is frustrating that if I set an objective it goes away if the order is "completed". If I tell my squad to defend a target and it gets captured it should remain the target and my squad should recapture it. A simple solution is to combine these orders into one generic order and make the objective remain regardless of the target's status.
High Rewards: Others have mentioned this and I agree that rewards seem high for squad leaders. I'm not sure if this balances out or increases when the squad actually works as a whole, but this seems like something worth tweaking.
Order Button: I really hate the R2 item wheel (mostly for switching weapons, so it gets even worse going R2 to R3 to commands. I wish there was an easy fix but I can't think of one. At least if orders remained until I chose another I wouldn't have to use it so much.
Educate and Organize Players: Squad leader role needs a special tutorial window. Perhaps the first time you open the battle selection area? It would explain the role. How orders are given and benefits to following them. Then a selection box to decide whether you want to be squad leader or not (which would also exist in the options window). If you read the tutorial and select yes you get added to the pool of players who want to be squad leaders. This should cut down on the number of players that don't take advantage of the feature. |

Not really about squad orders, but you can switch weapons ny tapping R2, no need to bring up item wheel for switching weapons.
I don't like the command wheel's button combination either. My solution: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=40320&find=unread |

Perhaps you haven't played this week, but the point reward for the squad orders has been GREATLY nerfed in the last hot fix. Approximately cut in half for squad members and cut to about 1/7 for squad leaders.
Being squad leader shouldn't be easy. It should require a different skill set than just running around shooting, allowing people of different skills to be required to make the best all around squad. I'm not saying some tweaking wouldn't be ideal, but CCP doesn't do small changes. When they try to "fix" something, they smash it into tiny useless pieces and watch us flop around for a while, I.E. Tanks, Dropships, squad orders, or they basically turn it into an ultima weapon, I.E. Forge Guns, Orbital Bombardment (which has pretty much been eliminated now since even the best squads out there might get 2 or 3 a game).
When recommending stuff, it might be a good idea to play the game after the most recent hot fix/patch, so that your suggestion is current. If you think squad order rewards should be nerfed further than what they already have been, then I very forcefully disagree. |

Yeah, I was judging the squad leader bonuses from a broad timeline and finalizing my thoughts from last nights play session. So my thoughts are current. I hadn't actually seen a big difference lately.
What I have noticed is that my score is drastically higher on matches where I am squad leader. And I would say squad mates follow my orders 1/4 of the time at best. I would also guess that on average the top scoring four players of each match are usually squad leaders.
Part of this problem is that most squad leaders simply don't give orders (and probably don't know they are squad leader) so admittedly I haven't had much chance to compare scores when following orders of other players. At this point I might as well quit a match if I'm not a squad leader.
So yes, CCP might want to consider crushing this system and building a new sand castle because it doesn't feel right yet.
And I still hold that the idea of setting an objective and it lasting the match would be a huge improvement over everything else I've mentioned. Because that is a common tactic. Each squad holds a flag the whole match. If it gets captured, that flag is still your objective. So why should that order disappear? |

+10points for a Kill +5 for Assist is PATHETIC.
Who should be encouraged to play with the Ordersystem with such small reward? +75 was maybe too much, but 10Points? srsly?
I dont bother to be SL anymore, too much pain for no gain.

The only thing that bore me with squad lead commands, is that there is no diffrences between a "defense", "capture" or "attack" order ...
DEFEND seems to be the easiest : in theory, you have time to be prepare. Put remotes, hives, dropuplinks, take positions.
ATTACK seems to be in the middle : it is suppose to be a single target, or a little group, but aware from an objectif.
CAPTURE seems to be the hardest : as said for DEFEND, you'll probably face a defense system, and you're trying to play the objectiv.
Today, we've got a 1,2 multiplicator for ALL squad orders, and this is unfair (and having 3 different orders is useless )
Everything about gameplay, it's just practice !!! It's a dev choice and maybe it can be improve, but if it doesn't, I don't see any problem. |
