I've noticed that on the skills list there are little (1x) and (3x) symbols next to the skills. Could someone explain what these mean?
I would normally look this up on a wiki but there isn't one yet :P |

It's how expensive they are. There is actually some formula using the numbers to see how expensive it will become, but I can't remember it. |

that is the training time multiplier, it is what dictates how much SP you will need to train that skill, as well as telling you how much the SP requirement will increase per level |

It takes 310,920 sp to train a rank (x1) skill to lvl 5 so a rank (x2) will take 621,840 sp to train to 5 and so forth |

(To make things even) a x1 skill that stars at 12,000 will be 12/24/36/48/60k. A x2 skill will be 12/24/48/96/192k and so forth. Get it? |

Each skill have two attributes defining their Skill Point cost.
The first is the Skill Rank. That is the x1 to x16, it is simply a multiplier, a Rank 5 is 5 times more expensive to train as a Rank 1.
The second attribute is level, each skill have 5, and they get more expensive to get at higher levels. For rank 1 the skill level progression is: (this is the Next Level Cost values) Level 1: 6,220 SP Level 2: 18,650 SP Level 3: 43,530 SP Level 4: 87,060 SP Level 5: 155,460 SP
I've made a schema where you can easily look up the skill cost by rank and level. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApXBj3IzrWnydE5iSWo5MTFMN3NlSjJZTUpFZXlvaGc |

In EVE there is a formula. I haven't been able to deduce the one used in DUST.
And just to clear it up, it is only the SP cost that are predictable this way. The books ISK cost is pretty random. |

The multipliers (from Level 1, rank one) should have been 1, 3, 7, 14, 25 for the next level cost, and 1, 4, 11, 25, 50 for the total cost of a level, sadly this is no longer entirely the case, if you use those you get a deviation of an additional 10 SP per level too much for the next level cost, and 20 SP per level too much for the total cost from level 2 onwards.
So for now you have to use the base values for Rank 1: Next Level Cost: 6220, 18650, 43530, 87060, 155460
Total level cost: 6220, 24870, 68400, 155460, 310920
And multiply that with the actual rank of the skill. |
