After grinding up the ISK I finally have enough to buy the skillbook for a dropship, and enough SP to go logistics dropship.
I want maximum survivability, I don't care how fast it goes as long as it can take a beating.
Shield or armor , Eryx or Prometheus, 4 high powered modules with 2 low powered modules, or 2 high powered modules with 4 low powered modules?
I will post the stats here, but I would like an actual dropship pilot to comment.
Prometheus: High-Powered Module: 2 Low-Powered Module: 4 Max. CPU: 140 Max. PG: 380 Shield: 700 Armor: 1900 Shield Recharge:12/sec - Eryx: High-Powered Module: 4 Low-Powered Module: 2 Max. CPU: 225 Max. PG: 270 Shield: 1600 Armor: 1000 Shield Recharge:24/sec

Do you want more survival? Then use Prometheus. You likely to survive because Dropships can now out match the swarm launchers. All we need is Weber to slow them down. |

Speed is very important for maximum survivability in a dropship. If you can go faster than swarms then forge guns are the only thing that can get you. With that in mind I'd recommend a shield tank. |

If you're just looking at armor vs shields, shields are better on dropships.
Why? Unlike ground vehicles, your dropship won't get ruined by a flux grenade. (Last build, I hit a tank with a flux grenade, which completely disabled the shields; it didn't last long after that) |

Shield tank all day every day. The armor tank one doesn't have enough PG to support everything you need, so you have to cut into your tank with powergrids, or you have to run a DAMN tight fit that I have yet to see. Also, armor tanking slows you down, which gets you killed.
Oh, and the Viper / Myron / Eryx is just sexy (really wish they all had their own models though, that would be nice) |

Give up on Eryx or Prometheus. The logi dropships don't have the bonuses they're intended to get, so they're vastly inferior to the T1 dropships at this stage. Stick with Myron or Grimesnes.
As for armor or shield, it depends on what you want to do with it.
For most purposes, shield is superior. Shield tank allows you to get more speed, which is helpful for outrunning swarms. Also, shield tanks take less damage from missiles on the order of 60%*. This, coupled with the speed, mean a shield tanked dropship will almost always beat an armor tanked one in a dogfight.
So why would anyone go armor? To use their dropship as a dropship, is why. The fact that most of its tanking mods go in the lows mean that you can fit tanking mods and a DCU and a gang support mod such as an mCRU or active scanner. This means that you have more survivability for the occasions when you aren't able to be as mobile, such as while holding position over an objective.
I went armor this build. I'm having no trouble outrunning swarms, but (as mentioned) I have essentially zero survivability in a dogfight.
*A quick check pointing a missile turret at an installation showed 69% effectiveness against shields and 129% effectiveness against armor. |

Oh, and the Viper / Myron / Eryx is just sexy (really wish they all had their own models though, that would be nice) sir u'd be wrong about tht. my armor tank has 3,600 pg with enginering up to v 5. i can put a heavy rep and a heavy armor plate on. Armor can now support the crap their given now it just sucks to swarms Lol.
Next time don't comment on something u know nothing about. Aka u use shield tanks u know nothing about armor tanks :D. |

It all depends my friend, do you want to be killed by forge guns? Then use the Caldari dropships. Want to be killed be swarms? Use the Gallente dropships. All joking aside, the new propulsion modules added in the market make the Gallente dropships pretty kitten fast and the caldari even faster. All in all I would pick the dropships in consideration of skills you already have. If you're more mechanics based then go Gallente, more skilled in electronics engineering and shields go Caldari.
I hope my ramblings have served you well. |

Shield. With the shield hardeners, it's pretty awesome. Not based on usage, but statistics. |

I saved up all SP, ran militia gear to grind to 600k.
I went with the shield. I like speed. |

I gave up on the Eryx in the E3 build and would definitely recommend sticking with the Myron. It's a more capable ship and I have had no trouble the last two builds in finding gunners if I watch my team and set down in intelligent areas.
I haven't armor tanked yet, but have played extensively in shield ships and can say they have alot more survivability than you may think.
In the last build I made it up to 4K shield with 1K armor, advanced missile turrets and dmg reduction and shield/recharge boosters. It could take 2-3 full lower level swarms and still survive long enough to escape and land for repairs. All small arms fire could be ignored. I don't understand the circling buzzard tactics going on now and think it brings back bad memories of the ship spam in the E3 build. I laugh when I see dropships called an "I Win" button, but the full speed circling with weaker ships does look like a noob tactic. I think that upgraded AV will put an end to that soon though. |

Armor ship will be able to fit a 4 slot armor tank, and both a Damage Control for better tank and the new speed booster for bursts of flight (assuming CRU still comes standard) This fit will take time to get to speed because of plates, but you might be able to fix that by cycling the speed booster. The plates will provide more raw HP then the equivalent shield extenders. Resists will always be active and passive and a local rep will be needed. This fit assumes you won't be fixing other vehicles.
Shield will fit 4 slot shield tank and two nanofiber mods for higher top speed, or damage mods for better turret damage. Will get to a possibly higher top speed very quickly. Does not necessarily need local shield rep if you're willing to wait out natural regen. Will likely fit one extender and either two passive resist mods and one DC or three active shield resists. If one is cycled every 10 to15 or so seconds while doing everything else you get a constant 56ish percent resist doubling your EHP. If you burst your mods when you come under fire assuming you catch all that fire AFTER activation you get resists of about 73%.
Personally seeing as I'm fairly sure the active hardeners don't auto cycle and that you would have to do it mid flight with the crippled equipment wheel we were given this build I'd go armor. That said if you can try the active hardeners out and they do auto cycle then shields would be better overall I think. |
