Apparently with all this space tech, clones, and immortality, the best they could come up with AR wise is something that shoots 20 F**KING FEET!
I can not be the only one that finds it utterly bloody ridiculous that I have to stick my gun right up someones arse before it will do any damage.

It's interesting that you say this, because I've seen several threads where people have talked about how ARs have a very long (perhaps too long!) range now.
Maybe you could do some fun beta testing and actually discern what the range of assault rifles is and whether it's a range limitation or a personal issue that makes you not like these guns. Spoiler: Their range is longer than 20 feet. |

lol. I know. And I'll actually try that.
I'm just REALLY SUPER FRUSTRATED with DUST right now, because I was having so much fun in the last build, and now I honestly cannot get through more than a few games. It's not fun. All that happens is re-spawning and death.
I don't see how anyone can say the range is too long? Seriously? It's terrible. Especially at least the TAC AR should have a better range. Surely that is what it would be for right? More of a mid range weapon. It certainly isn't supposed to be close range, with the tiny tiny clip size, and the fact it should be semi auto would suggest to me a more medium range weapon. I've heard around the forum the it being full auto is a bug. I hope that is the case. |

i see the opposite.
if they got rid of that scope or got rid of the sniper's drunk scope it wouldn't be a problem. |

have you seen star wars? weapons of the future are inaccurate. the accuracy of weapons fired is in inverse proportion to the year the weapon is fired. |

very true.
in star wars the highest tech blasters couldn't hit anything they were aimed at.
but primitive pebbles and small sticks were deadly accurate [esp. if thrown by height challenged furries].

AGREED...
This is how i see it, the ARs should not come fitted with scopes at base level, that should be for modified/higher level equipment.
the Snipers scope sway is unreal for the low end zoom... either the sway needs a reduction or the zoom needs an increase. |

The sway has gone down each build, the sway reduction skill also needed level v of the damage skill to unlock. I head shot somebody last game while strafing down a hill side with scoped sniper rifle, maybe 80m range.
The background says ar effective range is 55m, they seem longer range in game. Plasma blaster, like shot gun and ar, are a high-damage short range tech. Projectile bullets and lasers do less damage, but have more range. Once we have non-gallente ar the range will be better, since they are the most cqc oriented of the 4 races. |

Actually if you look at the description of the AR in Dust, and look at the description of ship blasters in EVE it's almost a cut and paste of how they work. Firing a bolt of plasma at the target... Which is why the shots glow.
And the sniper sway has gone down a lot this build. Especially if you crouch, it stops completely after a couple seconds. I'm amazed the listened to me on the sway bonus though. Last build the sway bonus was on the proficiency skill, which required level 5 sniper operation. This build the sway bonus is on the operation skill which makes sense, and the dmg is on the proficiency.
And before you say it shouldn't be like that I can tell you've probably never used a long gun in real life. Long gun referring to any hunting rifle or sniper class rifle. You have no idea how much that crosshair sways and moves until you get use to firing one. That cross moves with every breath, every twitch or slight movement of your arms from not having that gun on a bipod or on a gun rest. Even on a rest it still sways slightly. |

Regarding the nonexisting sway while crouching I don't like it very much. Makes the sway reduction skill a bit pointless. Sure it makes sniping easier but more boring too. |

A standard Ar's base range is about as far as the middle circle on your mini map, which is around 65-70 feet. |

See, this is actually because we're using ARs based on Gallente plasma tech right now, which is notorious for its very high damage at close range but very short falloff distances. We're eventually going to be seeing weapons of other projectile types, like bullets and gauss slugs, which will perform far better at range. |
