I am amazed at the similarities to DUST and Eve
There was one perfect line in the movie that summed up the DUST and Eve relationship.

I thought of that too when I re-watched it recently :P It also got me thinking of additional Dust content ... years from now though.
Imagine a planet that does have aggressive local life on it ... it could be a PvE map ... or ... on a regular skirmish map, the local wild live could play as a dynamic 3rd aspect to the mission, attacking whoever they see. Contracts would be at a additional fee though ... don't want those Eve players thinking we'll do things for cheap :P |

"MIn++ does the dying, fleet just does the flying!" Yeah, and it was a terrible movie based off of one of my favorite books. I'd suggest reading the book now that you've seen the movie, because you'll find yourself laughing at how botched the adaptation was. After all, the director was very clear about never having read the book before making the movie "based off of" it. |

You meant the Quote goons have been using for Dust for quite some time and is on our website, our corp information and the recruitment posters we have?...
The similarity's have been well talked over in many a thread.
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you if its only the first time you've seen Starships troopers? It's a great film but avoid the sequels. They are horrible. |

Btw, the MI was called the MI because they were all trained in and operated jump-jet equipped powered-armor suits equipped with weapons that made our guns look like pea-shooters, including tac-nuke launchers. That movie didn't get anywhere close to how the book envisioned future warfare. |

[Book > Movie] [Game > Movie]
It's always the samething when it involves hollywood. However Starship Troopers the live action movie compared to say the Biohazard live action movies is a god send. The Biohazard movies are pure utter garbage with an idenity crisis. I personally enjoyed NPH and his minor role, but the movie for good or bad is a cult classic now, and generally well received. Atleast the first one is. The next two sucked big balls. The best thing to happen to Starship Troopers in a long time is the animated movie which came out already or should be soon. Nonetheless the live action port was not that bad compared to other movies based off novels, games, or the alike. Trust me; could have been a Street Fighter movie. Just thank the lords of gaming that it was never a tween novel made into some B.S. movie about sparkling faries... Sorry I mean wannabe vegetarian Vampires. Bleh! |

I've posted this before, but I feel like I owe it to RAH for all the entertainment and education he gave me.
The movie is a piece of ****. Virginia Heinlein actually threatened to sue Verhoven over the butchery he had made of Heinlein's book. The book was about the moral, ethical and civic education and evolution of a soldier, and for kicks Heinlein invented the idea of power armor. Another DUST tie-in for one of Heinlein's idea is the space elevator, or 'beanstalk'.
Anyway, here's one guy's take on book vs. movie:
http://www.facebook.com/notes/robert-anson-heinlein/how-did-verhoeven-manage-to-ruin-starship-troopers-so-completely/10150749110329221
P.S.: One of Heinlein's Mobile Infantry vets could mop the floor with a squad of DUST mercs. That's because Heinlein's vision of battlefield technology in the 1950s was way ahead of what CCP imagines in 2012. Don't feel bad, CCP, the man was a hard act to follow. |

So where was everyone when they should have sued someone for the Biohazard live action movies? How about when, Micheal Bay, decided to horribly butcher the Transformers, and make all about T&A and well of course his (in)famous EXPLOSIONS!!! Guess no one cared enough about those.
Was the movie Starhship Troopers cheesey? Yeah. Did the director atleast come forth and say he had never read the novel? Yeah. Atleast he was forth coming, and in the end for better or worse the movie became something entirely different. It's more like a prequel to the super tech, but whatever. Still a cheesey B-flick. Good for laughs and action. I'd rathe see someone sue over the other two, but that is just selfish of me, and subjective. |

Book is a mandatory read for MISO (edit: formerly known as PSYOP) during inprocessing, or at least it was late 90's early 00's. |

Dunno what all of you are on about... I love the Starship Troopers movie! A great ironic commentary on the dangers of a fascist oligarchy system with good action scenes to boot.
Granted, I haven't read the book, but in my mind the movie stands on its own feet and is severely underrated. |
