Would the "Laser Rifle" be better as a "Laser Pistol" sidearm?

It'd be nice to have a long range sidearm alternative.

It clearly fits a DMR type role right now, being most effective at medium to long range and terrible at short range. The people complaining that they can't get kills with it are terrible. I've been doing better in engagements ever since they were released.

Right now the AR can operate at pretty much the same range as the laser rifle, and assault rifles are way deadlier (plus can also be amazing at close range while the laser rifle cannot).

Wait, really? Do you fire it close to the overheat mark with each burst? I usually do bursts of no longer than 2 seconds, and I've never run out of ammo while using it. I'll use a supply depot if I'm near one, but otherwise the extremely rare occasions where I encounter a friendly nanohive seem to be more than enough for me.

I just always find myself using about half a "clip" at each engagement, so I get a few kills and then I'm out. I was going to make a heavy with a laser rifle, and once I have a dedicated squad I still might, I just can't see using it without a nanohive equipped, personally.

Personally, I don't think a laser pistol would make much sense, as generally sidearms are your backup CQC weapon, not a long range high damage weapon.
