Many think I have a negative view of Dust. I'm certainly very critical of certain aspects. But, Dust will last. I'm going to share some of my reasoning.
The MAG community. The noisy ones are already here. But the noisy ones were the "elite" groups. Now, the majority of MAG players never set foot on the forums. I never did. Never needed to, because in game communication was so easy & good. This silent majority are friendly clans who play pickup games, not clan battles. There are a great deal of these smaller clans. But they just want a game with user friendly...
Communication. Dust is actually better for communicating out of battle. Text based communication on ps3 is normally a very slow deal. Google translate on people's phones is also really useful too. The UVT regardless of your view on paying or not, allows you to sit and talk with strange Internet people. All these communication tools help with...
Full clan support. I don't need to go into much depth here. Mega corp skill book says it all. Provided you can include alliance members in corp battles, there is no FPS on console with this level of clan structure/size/management. I think this is part of the reason for so much interest from the large FPS clans. They quite like...
Unique gameplay. It was almost there last build. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The easiest way to describe it was an arena shooter such as quake/ut, dropped on to a battlefield map with good, useful vehicles available for all. Add the PvE element and esport? We have a beauty. This build? Stability is so much better, hit detection is properly sorted. Sure I feel the gameplay has suffered but that's the beauty of...
Regular updates. Whatever the problems CCP will keep grinding out the bugs. Balance stuff, add new gear to counter things. I might not like them all, but after release it won't be a case of changing everyone's strafe/mass, or halving tank resists. It'll be ensuring everything is working as intended, or fixing minor bugs. I think quite a few things might be a bit off still, after release, but there will be the 2013 update as it's been referred to elsewhere. Telling people WHEN content will be comming keeps people attracted IMHO.
I just wanted to throw this out there, because there is so much cussing on this build. I havent even mentioned the EvE community or the whole planetary conquest ect. I don't care that much about them. They're really cool, but they're added depth. All of the EvE interaction is. It's another possible readout for people to play, but I feel the other points are more important. They're the kind of things ps3 players have wanted from EVERY FPS. MAG is the only one which did some of these.

I commend your optimism , I hope this game works out but for me it seems each build they take a little bit more of the fun out of it.
But then again may be I am just dissapointed with the way things seem to be progressing

Good post Tony, I know this build has many flaws and issues but rest assured they will be sorted out as many old issues has been sorted during this long journey i part take on this beta and am sure everyone will be happy in the end just have faith we came a long so many problems but they get rid of it one by one. The most important thing is to give your feedback or support others whom you feel are good for the game its why we are here in the first place.
The best thing i found to overcome your hate/frustration is to play with friends in squads and chat it really makes the game feels better and more enjoyable.

I always consider Tony the goto guy for FPS based problems hes more of an expert on them than I ever will be, I am just average joe player with a habbit for being hard to kill at times because my play style is slightly out of the box (one example kicking grenades in halo 1, not many seemed to understand how I threw a grenade behind me while being chaged) |

If CCP listens, I think Dust will definitely be fine, and so they really seem to be listening. The big technical stuff like hit detection and stability are pretty much out of the way. |

The PS3 is at a point in its life-cycle, as are FPS games in general, where something new and innovative is needed. DUST will accomplish this as long as it grows into the game we all want it to be...that CCP says it will be. But will it get there before it runs off all but the die hard fans? I like what this game represents in terms of forward thinking. CCP is really taking a chance on this game in more ways than one. However, will "its a beta" be enough forever? The first time I played the new build it overheated my PS3. These are the sorts of problems (among others) that could be an immediate turn off for those trying the game for the first time. DUST has to be marketed to more than just EVE and ex MAG players for it to survive. Ues the game is still in development, and im a patient gamer...but I also dont wanna fry my console helping CCP turn DUST into the game I hope it becomes :) |

I agree tony. Dust has all the aspects of fps that an mmofps needs to have a healthy lifespan. Mag was a fail mmo but had great gameplay. Here we have a game in front of us that is not a fail as far as the mmo aspects go but lacks in gameplay imho.
Dust will fail if it released to early though. If dust does fail then I suspect sony would have a lot of blame in the fail soup. |
