EVE pilots and new DUST mercs.
This is an accurate depiction of how the last divide between the EVE pilots and the new DUST mercs seems to look for me. I would say the CCP are the ones filming. |

As a long time EVE player, I agree with that description. Does anyone honestly believe that they will get paid when a single ship in orbit has more firepower than the entire battlefield down below? There may be some kind of safe guards, but any EVE pilot who has played Dust514, and actually PLAYS EVE, will have little more than the basest amount respect for DUST players. Because someone playing EVE for a month can turn an entire DUST battlefield into just that. Dust. That's my opinion, though, for what it's worth. Dust isn't worth the time, CCP would be better off devoting more time and assets to WOD. Or, how about this game called EVE? |

I believe DUST will make a great addition to EVE of course. I just think that the EVE players and communities are large killing machines, while many DUST mercs are a new baby that CCP is proud of. I love that she is trolling the lion with her baby. I could see CCP doing the same thing. |

I can't tell which is which.
Are we the babies? If that's the case it's funny because that just means the EVE pilots can't touch us as we grow!
Or are the pilots the baby and we're the lion? I can agree with that because right now we can't touch them...but if they set us free <.<...

I don't believe CCP wants the DUST mercs to be dominated by the EVE pilots. They have already said that EVE pilots who take DUST lightly do so at their own risk. We will have installations that will be able to reach out and touch the EVE pilots so we won't be totally defenseless. Orbital bombardments have to be called in by someone on the ground and glassing a whole planet would be counter-productive since they want the resources and installations that are there.
Here's a thought, what if tech moon production was tied to control of the planet that it was in orbit of? If they don't have mercs on the ground defending then they are screwed. |

Now I may be confused a little about EVE in this sense but don't eve player need these planets to for there resources so that they can sell and make stuff and money.
Now this is just a theory and nothing more based on what I just stated. We are mercs and what do mercs do? Anyone? That is right we do the job that pays the most.
As dust mercs we can supply ground to air assault as well. Dont believe me go watch the old CCP vids from the their CCP con thing that they did. There is a big giant freaking huge cannon that lobs shots into orbit to attack enemy ships. Cannons you cannot attack from space by the way. Which would probably blow a ship to little bitty pilot pieces.
Now this is all irrelovant as long as you have a loyal merc(keyword being merc). But what happens when the merc you paid to defend a planet tells you sorry they paid me more. Then just basically hands over that big giant cannon sitting on top of your big giant resource.
Now you may refer to as dogs but, on more than one occasion I have seen where a dog completely massacred his owner. Not say that we are dogs of course. We are much more we have the ability to reason to think when we are being used and react as we see fit.
P.S. There is no actual hate here. I was just having fun doing a little role playing as if I was in character as a merc. Hope everyone enjoyed the post. |

I love this post it is right on. Right now we are nothing more than dust to EVE players. But in all honesty if we are the babies we will grow and one day have a big enough gun to shoot the lion in the face. Or we are the lion then one day we will be released and eat these babies that they call pilots. |

Yes that is my point we have no interaction with the EVE world yet and, I feel that no one will really know what kind of impact we will have on the universe. I for one hope it is decent at first not real big. Then later as the other merc stated when they release the lions into the game. And they will, CCP is known for making more interaction between player to make it like a real world simulation. Then I think that the dusters will really have the ability to make a mark on the Universe. |

With a few exceptions that I have found so far in the console gamers community, this best describes how many Eve pilots see the "console kiddies". This was reinforced after the first night of being on Team comms.

A wise man once said "you don't own it unless you can stand on it". It appears CCP is fundamentally changing the EvE universe. No longer will it be enough to have a ship in orbit to claim a planet. It will soon matter who controls the ground. Some of the suggestions requested shipboard combat, so that space-based industrial factories might also be threatened by us 'dusties".
Whether the space station assault comes to pass or not, we Dusters will be making ourselves - or at least our Corporations - important to the capsuleers. They can fly all over the galaxy, but they can't stand on a planet. We can.
Game on. |

EVE players in general have always been the most arrogant among MMORPG players, in my experience.
EVE players, followed by "Hardcore PVPers" in themepark MMOs like WoW.
that said, EVE has some wonderful folks, really top notch people, with great concepts that other MMOs would never, ever have. like the EVE University folks, and the people who post in the Intergalactic Summit forum on the EVE Forums.
I've never seen anything like EVE University, in ANY MMO I've ever played. |

Dust is new. Eve is coming on 10 years of live history. Is it any surprise at all that Dusters are looked upon as "stoopid newbies"? Hell, some of us veteran Eve players got demoted to "stoopid newbies" just for being interested in this side of the game.
The difference between the console gamer and the PC gamer is already large. The difference between the "immediate gratification" of the console gamer and the "stack of notebooks/ sea of spreadsheets" of the Eve gamer sometimes seems like a different game altogether. In spite of the spreadsheets Eve is a brutal and unforgiving environment. It is complex and tactical, and a single decision can indeed have repercussions that my not be felt for years. Is there a console game to date where your action extend beyond the "right now"?
Dusters will earn respect within the Eve community when they can not only take, but hold their own territory. Right now it isn't possible within game mechanics. Some Dust corps that have moved over from various FPS games have potential. Some seem to realize that your gungame is actually a small part of corporation success. Most FPS folks I have run across look at me like I'm crazy. Guess what, you're always going to be a foot soldier. Good for you, your corp can issue medals. When Dust corps take and hold their own, then respect will be earned. |

Let me get this straight. Dust Mercs are the baby, and the lion is EvE players, just waiting to be unleashed upon the mercs to slaughter them?

Me either. It will probably start with station boarding, but still. Did you see the smirks on the Devs faces when ship boarding got asked about?

It is feasable, and it has obviously been tossed around the CCP staff meetings more than once. Implementation is a long way off if it happens at all, but it is feasable and CCP made it clear that if it is what the Eve/Dust community wants to happen.. they already have a plan.

I never saw the benefit of station walking within Eve. The benefit of walking in stations serves no purpose but to let people gather socially in the station bar to impress eachother with their Aurum suits. Without personal interaction, what other purpose does station walking present?
I would guess that CCP was experimenting into adding a social interaction element into Eve that involved "face to face" gathering. What other purpose does station walking serve? What other purpose is there to fancy clothes that cannot be seen in the portraits?
It has not been a priority because the community has not made it a priority. Boarding ships is a whole hell of a lot more fun than gladhanding in the Jita 4-4 bar. The upside for CCP is that all the work that has been done on station walking will not be a waste after all.
Agreed though. it is a loooong way out.

Dust's affect on the Eve universe will really be determined by the Eve players
Corp battles and planetary control are dictated by Eve players Weapons, vehicles and all else will be manufactured by Eve players (other then some special stuff by CCP)
So yeah, right now we are being looked down on ... and until we have more control in the universe, it'll continue to be like that ... for a while
The more Eve players create contract and start loosing moons and other planets, things are gonna change
In there eyes, Dust mercenaries aren't soldiers ... we are nothing more then weapons, a tool to use to achieve a gain, but that also mean we are going to be feared by those we attack.
Rest easy ... our time will come |
