Hey. I'd love to hear input from the community and CCP on this one. What is the active scanner supposed to do?
In my experience it doesn't go through walls, nor is it clear how the scanner's resolution interacts with the dropsuits' profiles. Does anyone have experiences or some theorycrafting level specifics on this one?
If CCP were to answer, it's really important the community knows exactly how the AS is supposed to function. Right now it's hard to know if it's working or not when I test it! |

I'd like to hear something on them, they don't seem to do anything. |

Yeah, that's my experience as well. I really expected it to "see" through walls. |

I just expected to see the little red chevron thingies if it detected anyone. Also, does it detect in a radius around the suit, or is it a targeted thing? The way you use it makes it seem like it's targeted, yet the descriptions on some of the modules seem to imply it's in a radius around your suit.
Very confusing item. |

I've noticed that if I'm not aiming directly at them it doesn't even work. I've stopped putting points into this for now. Actually I've held off on putting points into that character from the disappointment. |

ive been trying to test this equipment, and have been posting my tests HERE. Feel free to add your own tests to the list, as i have renamed the thread to askfor DEV clarification. |

Your testing experiences mirror mine. I'm really confused as to why the Active Scanner does nothing of what I thought it would. |

its a real disappointment at the moment... my only conclusion is that it it bugged and broken and in fact does not work at all. |

After reading the description of the active scanners,I thought that it would perform similar to the ability that the Operative has in Brink. He has to hold his aim onto a target for a few seconds until a lock-on appears. After that, everyone on the team sees that player that has been "marked".
I thought that the active scanners would pretty much mirror this action,so that you could see a player's chevron,or he would appear on the minimap without needing to be spotted by a teammate. At this point, and from my limited testing,it does absolutely nothing an has no function, except to help get you killed.
An explanation from the devs would be nice.

It seems to scan an area somewhere vaguely around what you're "aiming" at with the scanner, though it's hard to use "aiming" as a description for waving around a large cross made of motherboard parts.
For someone ON the field it doesn't seem very useful as it stops at collision walls such as walls, hills, and other objects around in front of you. For someone running a reliable support sniper (not talking the lone-wolf who thinks he can shoot EVERYONE on the map, but a guy who's actually up high but calling targets he sees and aiding in directing the squad, it could be quite useful for scanning around an area the sniper is looking at though he can't target enemies directly himself. That or a command player who is up above and running high-field recon to do the same.
This is only my personal speculation after using the thing and noting that on the ground it did little for me but when I got up above and waved it at black-dots 500m away, my teammates in the area were able to see their red-dots even though the enemy were not visible to them directly (and certainly nothing I could take out running Assault Logi) |

I used a standred Active Scanner on Snipy Rocks at objective B on skirmish, There was a Enimy LAV on the other side of the wall and I used the AS and I saw the LAV Icon (Though the immage was flashing like a old TV). All I did was aim the AS at the target and I saw everything. |

It sounds quite limited. i expected more from it. Also, does the dampening effect work? I dont think it is hiding me at all. I am not sure how that should work either. |

the dampening works for when you are hiding and not shooting. For instance I had a S Prophile Dampener installed and I sat behind a small hill on Snipy rocks and a REd player ran past me and hacked the supply depot without seeing me (at the veary least he didn't attack me) and I hacked the SD back. But the dampeners do work as intended. |

Scan warfare seems to work as a relationship between scan profile and scan precision, whichever is lower will have a better advantage. For example (not taking into account skills) if u are running around in an assault suit (scan precision 55) and you see a scout run behind a building u will not have him on ur radar for long because he has a scan profile 10 less than ur scan precision. Now the second part of my theory is tht building and terrain hinder scan precision more, as the terrain gets bigger; ie. a small building might make ur scan precision increase (get worse) by 5% whereas a larger building might increase it by 10-15%. As for the AS it has its own scan precision (I haven't tested if it is affected by skills or not) but it confirms some of my theories cus I've stood on one side of a building and didn't know there was a lav on the other side did an AS scan and it show up flashing then disappeared about a second after I put the AS away. |

That's interesting, but I think it's too complicated. |
