Disclaimer: For starters internet wise every one has a different set up and location in the world. So some of the stuff Im going to say may be the polar opposite of the kind of experience your getting with this build.
For starters I'm not a big fan of the fact we have to press and hold to reach our non weapon inventory. Any one using a keyboard knows that using cap locks to achieve that interrupts you. With my controller I can switch to an injector on the fly. With a keyboard I have to take cover then switch the use it. Being able to wheel through your inventory seemed more intuitive to me all though it might seem less polished or creative. I do understand why you made that change though. It makes sense that you would parcel equipment and guns into two separate groups and use different commands to access them. Its just right now with the controls KBM are at a slight disadvantage.
Input wise I get more frame rate issues on KBM then on controller. The controller is much less accurate but the game flows smoother with it and has fewer frame rate issues. Mouse sensitivity is a little intense right now but after reading other peoples threads and experimenting by turning it down has been my work around. Not a big fan of the sound affect changes for the assault rifle. I dont see why that had to be changed. We have had the same AR sound for all builds prior to this one and now its changed. Im not sure why that was a priority, sound is one of the things I feel people have had the least amount to comment on. Also Sounds still get stuck and repeat, although If the person activates the device that caused the sound to get stuck it tends to end the loop.
For me personally stability has increased ten fold. In the last build I was almost guaranteed a hard freeze on the way back to my merc quarters from the 5 objective map. Since codex I have not had a single hard freeze at all. Also other then the match time out error I dont seem to be getting bugs or errors on anything. I have yet to have the invalid bug as well(fingers crossed). Lag seems to have improved slightly. Of the few times I have been able to play objective maps there are still moments where every one is struck with crippling, but momentary, waves of lag, which cause undesirable results clipping DC etc.
I think every one at this point knows the new ability to select skirmish match in instant is bugged. The one time My squad managed to get into an objective match last night the match bugged out. 3 mins in randomly it claimed defeat and showed our mcc blowing up even though neither side had captured a single null canon. Kind of disappointing there. At least with the mix of ambush or skirmish, skirmish sort of worked. Now it doesn't work at all. Also there is a lot of disconnecting from matches. The sad part it is it only ever seems to happen when my squad/team is performing well, were almost always rewarded with a DC, and the fact that the patch notes said we would get some SP and ISK despite this, and totally not having it be the case is a pretty big disappointment. If its fixed its fixed, thanks. If its not please dont say it is.
That aside, I am still impressed with the stability at least for me personally over the previous build, I always will have moments when I will load drop suit fitting, the market, or my contact list get a long loading wheel or a screen that freezes for a few seconds, and think: "Lag, here comes the crash," and so far it hasn't happened once. It seems that once you have your default builds for vehicles, suits etc theres no lag when loading the fitting window, the moment you start adding custom suits, the load time increases considerably. Contact lists load very slowly as well. One work around is if you pre load your contact list from the social button on your neo com it tends to take less time when you use it to add squad mates.
Nanites are still bugged in the sense some times the persons body isn't where you go to inject the nanites, but they have become easier to use I have noticed, its less touchy. Lots of times I have noticed the injector just goes right in with out the r1 prompt which has helped I think a great deal. in build one and two no one used injectors. In this build every one seems to be using them, and if your not you should be. Seriously its easy sp. Also the weird bug where you dont see a person have a death animation until you actually face them is a little strange but so far it hasn't interfered with me reviving people so its more of a cosmetic obscurity then anything else.
Female suits looks awesome minus the female light dropsuit. You need to reign in t1ts mcgee a little bit. No female duster wants her torpedoes getting shot off. The Aurum BP verses item militia stuff annoyed me at first, and then when I realized that even with marginal performance it wasn't going to affect my isk intake I ran with it. Honestly I think business wise the concept will work. Where people were looking for the "id rather pay a subscription then micro transaction," comment for dust, this system allows those people to just make a down payment on some BPs and call it done. Like it or hate it business wise I think the concept is sound.
If Some of the lag problems DC problems, and the fact that list related items, like corp names, Contact lists, and vehicle fittings take a long time to load are being caused by the hamsters on the wheels in the singularity server, then hopefully tranquility will solve some of these problems. Or at least thats what I've been told. Im reserving to say anything about strafing or hit detection issues, because frankly im just not a good enough console fps player to make an accurate judgement call on those issues. Im a little disappointed we wont see light aircraft, PVE, or MTAC. But You cant roll out everything in the beta.

Sp Farming is comical. A little disappointing PS weren't reigned in to counter for this. Then again if the whole point of this build is to test the hell out of SP OB congratulations mission accomplished. SP Farming can be regulated by the players if they deem unfair etc. Theres a myriad of ways a couple of dedicated players can **** up a sp farmers day.
The squad improvements like laying defense orders on squad mates was much needed, its alot easier to use squad leader bonuses to sp in ambush, personally I like the change and it gives players one more reason to find corps or at least squad up.
I have decided to approach the SP anti grind mechanism with a wait and see mentality, because right now my sp gain has been all over the board so quite frankly I cant tell if Im just playing terrible every other match, or if the sp gate just isnt working for some reason. Nerfed isk is a little disconcerting though. If you hit your sp cieling at least you can grind for isk for vehicles etc. If you take away that reward, now a player might have not have reason to play.
The different environments and graphics are an improvement. but since were not seing the full breadth and depth of the client, that this is light weight beta client its hard to tell how good things will look in the end. I feel with the new shader system the shiney parts of armor tend to still look a little pixelated and rough around the edges. It looks as good as it can be all things considered, but I think many folks would agree with me that its just the Unreal Engine 3 showing its age mainly. Right now we cant change that.
Our beta downloads use up our PS3 for the extent of download and install. You should really focus on getting a background downloader as a lot of new people will see hours long downloads and simply say **** it and play something instead of having there console hi Jacked for the extent of the download. Its petty I know, but seriously were dealing with average joe console player and he is a busy man(And I mean this in the most respectful way possible to each his own).
Diving out of the MCC Amazing! love it! Spawning is crap but its been crap since day one. Drop uplinks and good team work seem to be a soft counter to this. The addition to instillations to Ambush is... interesting. I've had some fun with right now it doesnt seem to be horibly ******* with ambush out comes and gives us one more thing to set objectives for and fight over.
TLDR: Disconects and lost SP ISK rewards big dissapointment. Lag blows right now, if tranquility fixes it no harm done, Female suits are cool except for **** mcgee scout, Sad to see skirmish is broken, Stability on my end HUGE improvement over the last build, This build is clearly being used to test OB mechanic, Unreal engine tending to show its age, hard to tell, needs a background downloader, SP gate still need tinkering balancing, Strafe hit detection no comment(bad judge of this), Squad improvements appreciated. |
