 It appears that the lasers do great shield damage vs light vehicles but does **** vs armor. I assume this is the same vs drop suits I also assume this is the first sign of resists comming into play as lasers traditionaly are em/ thermal in eve so **** vs armor.

 that's what i am assuming what it was going to be. i'm noticing armor is harder now it actually feels like it can take a pounding and also i am seeing the shields take a bit more.
 not that i can see much i might add, i'm in a scout suit so three shots from anything will kill me.

 Lasers are EM which is great vs shields and **** vs armor. And yes, in one of those tips you get before battle, one of them talks about damage types and how they vary for shield damage vs armor damage.

 I think it's always been in game, it's just more obvious now. I'm pretty sure the HMG mows through armor faster than shields. This is why heavies like flux grenades.
 
 I think it wasn't obvious because the caldari AR is doing fairly balanced damage. Not sure about the scrambler, sniper, smg or mass driver. Any observations on those, peeps?

 correct, a CCP dev told us on IRC a while ago that damage types have always been in the game, its just that there currently is no interface for it.
 
 Lasers do EM damage, which typically do more damage to shield

 A tool tip during the loading screen told me:
 
 Laser = Great shield damage, bad armor damage.
 Explosive = Bad shield damage, great armor damage.
 Projectile = Slightly better armor damage over shields.
 Hybrid = Equal damage to shields and armor.

 its a gallente AR currently in the game
 i believe the caldari AR was the gun shown in the 09 alpha vids, e32011 vid, and welcome to new eden pt1 vid....its the one with the reflex sight and not the camera sight we currently have

 Advanced lasers are the same as standard for damage. The only difference is that, the heat-up time is reduced, making it impossible to overheat the gun.
 
 The Proto lasers do more damage, don't overheat and cost 8x what the advanced lasers cost.
