Seems that people complain too much about small things. We got a great new update that dealt really well with so many bugs from prior build. And I want to add my positive feedback to CCP. You guys did a great job. The game is playable and enjoyable again. The reason why I say this is to make sure that people who are happy with changes have a thread to express it and our comments don't get lost in a sea of negative feedback that come from what I believe is a vociferous minority out there.
Specifically, on the subject of nerfed straffing - I think that with all those negative complaints/comments that we are seeing it is just a reaction from a group of people who used to play assault suit/ assault rifle combo in the previous build. To me it's clear that it was an OP combo at that time as assault suits were uncatchable at short range because of their excessive agility combined with poor hit detection hit from the opponent. On the other hand, assault rifles were acurate enough to dominate at mid and longer range. Unfortunately, i think this created a large group of ppl that got used to relying on this combo to rack in big SP absolutely at disadvantage of any other style of play that would be dictated by other (non-assault) suits and weapons. In short, it created inflated SP/ISK and K/D in favor of assault suit/assault rifle combo. Again, I want to stress that this was in the first place because the previous build was 1 - imbalanced and 2 - with poor game mechanics with a broken hit detector. Now that a lot of balancing issues are fixed we see complaints because it's just no longer possible to outdodge fire at close range by straffing "Matrix' style. As a result ppl who used to think that they were top dogs are reacting negatively because their K/D has dropped. Dropped straffing speed is just a convenient scape goat for them. As for me - straffing may benefit from minor tweaks from this point forward but should stay largely the same.
Lastly. This build has fixed a lot of old glitchy rusty problems and beta now feels like a fairly modern FPS with good mechanics. Great thanks to CCP! This did a lot to revitalize my hope for DUST. Please, do not be distracted/discouraged by overblown complaints about minor issues like straffing speed. The game is shaping up great since this last build. |

I agree everyone got used to the straife speed and poor hit detection.
Now they will have to adapt like the heavy suit has every build. |

First they came for the heavy.
Then they...
Anyways, I am all for a positive thread. I'll try to make one soon. But the OP's middle paragraph is a lot about players, not about what is good in this build, and it does not describe me at all.
I was never that great at the game. I am not an FPS pro, or even really much of a fan of the genre.
But I've been making a lot of characters throughout many DUST builds and have so far played and sunk a lot of SP into upgrading: sniper, swarm launcher vs. infantry (when you could kill infantry with swarm), assault assault combo, scambler pistol, shotgun, HAV, dropship, Logi assault combo, Swarm launcher AV SMG combo, HMG... I have used all the suits and all the vehicles.
And I am one of those folks that find the game and this build especially to be sluggish and too slow. From a console, controller, push button make things happen perspective. |

I'm not even going to bother going into a detailed argument as to why strafing is essential to the success of this game, because i've been arguing the position since march, and it can be found using the search function. |

Ok here is the deal. Bottom line: if strafe has been nerfed some this build - fine it's an OK argument; but the converse it 10 times more true - in the last build strafe was WAAY overpowered, mostly because of poor hit detection. I think it's hyppocritical to say that strafe was nerfed too much and not mention that was way overpowered and was hurting the game before. And when ppl say lets go back to the old build - well that's just hurting game development. That's my point. |
