... at the complaints about OB/PS spam!!
May I kindly direct your attention to the 'Immortal' opening movie... do you see the chaos that is unfolding before your very eyes?? You may want to pay special attention to the very end.... OB after OB... and thus it is!
Look at your SP gain versus your ISK gain...
Tanks were once gods but now they are equal with the ground pounders. Want to hold a position because your waiting for the timer to countdown to zero? Well thats kittened too!
I always wondered why the game announcer said clone reserves at 50% during a Skirmish... Now WE know!
Invest time... 7 years they said... and 7 years it shall be. If you want to be an instant war god on the battlefield then go play... i'm not fouling my post with 'those' names. This is about eternal strife not 'woohoo! I win!'
OB/PS are what this game needed. Not just buffs and nerfs to Tanks/AV...
'it's the only way to be sure!'
Peace and love to you all..... BAHAHAHAAAAA! Who am I kidding?!?! |

Baring the insulting points/melodrama in this post, it makes sense.
The thing I think most people are really concerned with are how people are doing the old spawn camp-farm thing. Precision Strikes are fine. The WP gaining is the bigger issue. |

It would be fine if they were actual assets that you payed for, or at the very least had to have positioned above the district. I think part of the problem is just that this is a placeholder right now, and has no consequences for use. The precision strike also received a nice buff this build, with a faster launch time, a much wider kill field, and a longer duration. |

What in the current dust skill set counters OB spam as it is presently in Codex? You mention the 7 year figure but which skill/gear provide any sort of active counter to the "once a minute" (or less) repeated OB?
There are already posts where people are talking about actively avoiding their team mates just to try and survive against the OB spam a little better. How does that promote teamwork or game play?
When the game is live and the OB are from real players running in EVE fleets then sure fine because they're risking their own ships/ISK/fits etc by making those strikes while battles rage in space as on terra-firma but when it's just a "click to kill" button for the squad leader? Nah bra, that's not what the intro was talking about and it's not good game balance.
EDIT: Oh and those OB from EVE ships? Yeah you'd better either have a friend or you'll be paying ISK through the nose for them. Go and watch (or re-watch) the fanfest keynote for Dust. They explain about the goals for OB pretty directly in there and "freebie strike spam" doesn't enter into it. |

thatd make more sense but id still be saddened if your main weapon throughout the game was orbital strike |

First lets clear this up. A precision strike is from the war barge. So even if it is in orbit with the planet it is not really an OS. I don't think the precision strikes should be used like crazy. But once we do get the EVE ships here, I would love for the game play to look like the video. :D |

@Cross Atu... I agree with all your comments, but I would like to give a gentle reminder that this is 'testing'. In terms of the future of dust I can see the threshold for calling in a strike being either raised significantly or being deducted from your ISK earnings at the end of the battle.

right you are good sir, right you are.
Regarding testing my sense is simply that when you take into account the likely cost in ISK for getting "heavy air support" combined with the risk elements (i.e. said support being shot down) the current frequency of OB/PS is a bit much. For effective testing there needs to be something to simulate the risk to the EVE player in orbit or the battle barge rather than the present "death from a clear blue sky" thing that's happening in beta.
Would I would hate to see happen is the power of the OB/PS get nerfed or even worse not included due to an imbalance (i.e. lack of proper "real world" context within New Eden) in the current frequency which which they're being accessed under the current Codex testing build.
EDIT: Quick (totally rough) example of what I mean. If you have say 12 OB in the space of a match, and those are compressed within the latter half of a match that is likely equivalent to more than one support vessel taking part in the battle on your behalf. Those assets all have cost to deploy and risk of loss, likely they have other fleet elements engaging hostile space based forces to 'hold the line' so they can provide the OB to their Dust squad on the ground. So that (again roughly speaking) means that you have an equivalent number of Pod jockeys fighting in orbit as you do Dusters on the ground. Those all being real people it would require either more ISK or more player coordination (to mobilize the forces) than is demonstrated now under the Codex build.
What we're seeing in Codex is closer to Dusters fighting on a planet who's star system has already been overrun by enemy forces. In that context you can just expect to have a bad day and hope to hold the line until reinforcements arrive. But testers are more likely to think of a new match as a fresh start and things being equal. Which gives a false sense of potency to the OB/PS due to their excessive frequency. |

Maybe the reason why OB/PS are so easy to get is so that CCP can actually get valid data from them? Just like the Militia Vehicles from the E3 build, they had them easy to get to collect data. |

Could be, if so I hope they give us a heads up on that. It's pretty easy to say "Oh ok this is for testing it's not meant to be balanced this way" if we know but otherwise we're left giving feedback on what's in front of us without any further context. |

Sorry to bring R/L back into this but history has proven that air superiority wins every time (excluding Vietnam). Although it is very costly. Hence my comment about ISK, if the corp wants the planet then surely no expense shall be spared. |
