I liked my Madrugar with a heavy rep, 2 EANM and 180mm plate. I did kill many tanks and the shield ones were the toughest. With this character resets I am thinking of starting for the shield HAVs' What do you guys think? Is there a real imbalance between shield and armor? |

Is there a real imbalance between shield and armor? shield is heavely favored in this game. mainly cause there is another layer after shields are taken down to attempt to rep the shield. sure it is a small portion of armor and pretty much after you lose your shield you are most likly going to be obliterated. but it is still another layer.
armor reps lose their armor, they are done. |

shields have only 1 advantage and thats against the mainly used AV weapons that you see. Im talking about swarms and Av grenades. Shield have more resistance against those because of the explosive nature of the weapons. In the last build it was like this: Missiles/AV grenades/Swarms do only 69% of damage against shields while on the other way they do 129% damage against armor. Roughly you either do 1/3 less damage towards shields and 1/3 more damage against armor. However if you use a forgegun and flux grenades they do the opposite (well flux grenades where bugged so meh). Now you can imagine what people are going for.
A: forgegun which can only be fit on a heavy suit and you actually need to aim at your target and no equipment slot B: swarm launchers with their easy to use lock on function which can be fit on any suit combined with a nano hive to restock ammo for it any time.
Another factor is that swarms are aible to fly around corners which make them a "no skill weapon". When you see them getting shot at your vehicle dont bother to run for cover they will fly around the corner and hit you every time. Well i havent seen a forgegun blast that is capable to do that. And another thing is that you get most of the skills related for assault dropsuits (shield based type-2) are also used for shield tanks. While on the other side if you are using mainly a heavy dropsuit then you get the skills aswell for armor tanks. You see it also matters what kind of infantry player you are. Assault with focus on shields=shield tanks A heavy dropsuit player with focus on armor= armor tanks.

Personally I suck at aiming... I stick to shotgun/HMG and heavy type 1 suits lol
That is interesting about the AV/swarm. I always thought it was weird when I used swarms and it barely scratched the enemy tank (seems to be shield). Then when I got hit with a swarm it hurt like a mofo. AV nades suck too lol |

Wait and see if they've played with CPU/PG on vehicles, but after "the great Nerf" armour tanks seemed better.
Tbh, wait a few hours and see. The real bonus on armour tanks is their repair modules. Far superior to shield boosters. |

I'm gonna throw in my two cents about the Armor VS Shield tanking here. It's kind of hard for me to find a good common ground on it, because I myself am an EVE player. In EVE, it's actually quite different for us there.
The shield tanking is good, and so is the armor tanking, because there's structure. Like when fitting on a dropsuit, it can be hard to choose to think about armor tanking, because there's no third. Really. Soon as armor is out, or as far as I have seen, you're gonna die. Haha! Almost like trying to run a hull tank on EVE... You can do it, but... Not usually the best of ideas... Imo. Anyway. Food for thought. |
