First, go play the Resident Evil 6 demo (free on PSN) or get the game. Then come back and continue reading this post.
- Note in RE6 the ways you can enter cover (would need a good polish if CCP were up to making something like this work well in multiplayer).
- You can turn and run quickly in any direction w/ the left stick along with the integrated sprint click, with out the sluggish turn of the dust FPS mode (which killed mouse/keyboard, by the way)
- Running melees where you enter a damaging animation with enemy player (running gun but, nova knife jab/slash).
- Players could be knocked down by explosions/gun butt melees. Tap button or interactive button prompt to get up faster (maybe animations where you can stomp/damage fallen player).
- You can roll dodge. Also, you can dive dodge, where you can continue to lay prone on the ground after dodge diving by holding the dodge button and keep firing (Max Payne/RE6). Also moving the stick while your character is laying prone on the ground will make you roll to evade fire, just like RE6. To prevent this from being spammed (think people who'd exploit by being a dodger ninja) dodging uses stamina, just like jumping. Or hell, maybe there can be a melee class, using scout style characters who have nova swords and can do back flips off of high walkways and perform wall jump cartwheels and sh!t! (too WTF perhaps?). By the way, I think there could be some use in a prone stance, period. Why isn't there one?
- Clicking the stick while in aim mode swaps dominant hand (camera over left or right shoulder)
Also, think Red Faction: Guerrilla
Mix this with Dust.
And get...
=> Epic-a$$ MF'in MMO3PS? (with optional FPS for those who may writhe in disgust at this hypothetical request/brainstorm)
Or perhaps I'm being just too hopeful? Is something like this too complicated or implausible.
I mean, RF: Guerrilla and RE6 are EXCELLENT 3PS games with integrated hand-to-hand/melee fighting. And again, you can still keep the FPS interface if you wanna fight FPS style with a few tweaks.
This would definitely make DUST 514 a MUCH more interesting game than just another MAG/BF3/every other shooter ever style game. It would definitely have much more appeal and acclaim.

havent played Res but have played RF Gurrila and ghost recon future soldier which had absolutely brilliant prospective and movement and both of these showed that they could have online modes that could be every bit as good if not better than the modern cod or Battlefield so the third person shooter could work if the devs were that way inclined,
But you say the first person or third be a option i think is imbalenced as being in third person allows you to see around corners and generaly see more than a FPS if they were to go TPS then i would suggest having it like ghost recon where the only way to truely shoot acuratly would be to aim downsight in first person veiw which would meen that hip fire would need significent reducion in accuracy, hiting L1 from here would slow the character down and make him either aim on the top irons of a scope or generaly eye where it will shoot, then hitting R3 would enter Aim down sights which would be far more accurate again |

PVE maybe. PVP: no thanks. a lot of the things you mentioned make rail shooters (walk though a level and killing NPC's) great but just dont work in PVP. EG the animated melee options, it looks awesome but it slows the gameplay to a crawl. just trust me it has beed tried before. isn't it had enough to get kills as isGǪ |

Perhaps then leave out the intricate melee combat...? Though, I think if done properly, it would be totally awesome... Halo did it in their later games with the 3rd Person melee animations.
Killzone 3 had melee animations and it was done quite well and it was an FPS
KZ3 and RF: Guerrilla are both phenomenal online.
The 3rd person thing is coming back again with RE6, and yes, it is centered for co-op play VS NPC, so I see your point. (Though I could see a PVP DLC for it and it would be kick-a$$)
My point is the game would be absolutely beautiful if it combined the high qualities of those games. Of course, it would need very good execution on CCPs part.
As we can all see from the beta alone, the game is a great concept, but still needs massive work.
I'm saying - go in a different direction than an FPS in space (BF3 with space ships + classes + MMOFPS + ect.) |
