Several matches now I and squad partners have summoned vehicles, driven them to target locations, and parked them for a while to defend or move about. Then after a brief time outside the LAV, Dropship, or HAV, the vehicle will arbitrarily explode, taking no crash or terrain damage, no damage from enemies (there were no enemies on at least 3 occasions, one of which included all of the above vehicle classes called by different squad members).
Initially we considered this was only related to dropships landing on high towers until we witnessed it numerous times with LAVs and even two HAVs in open field while we just stood around playing with jump mechanics.
Is there a cause for this or is it an issue or bug with the game mechanics themselves? It's only a serious complaint as lost vehicles can be an expensive ISK cost, as well as a loss of an expected get-away or nearby extraction vehicle. |

Same here. I just parked outside to hack the ?Node cannon? and then i wanted to jump in my LAV to drive to the next but it selfdestruckted before i reached it. |

Just wanted to update, this is still happening with LAVs left and right, even with nobody firing on them.
I haven't seen it on a dropship or tank yet but probably because they're such a high-risk item that nobody bothers to actually ever get out once they've called it onto the field.
While I understand the intent of this is to prevent the field being overrun by people playing bumper-cars all over the map, it seems a waste when you jump out to hack an objective, nearby cannon, and supply depot and suddenly, "BOOM", 10m behind you and you've lost a 100k investment just so you could do your job. |

This has always been the case as far as i can remember. If you leave a vehicle unattended for too long it's armor will begin decreasing until it explodes. If you get in in time, it will stop taking damage. This does indeed happen to dropships also. I've had a couple blow up due to this. Most likely tanks, too, though i'm not sure on that. Vehicles are often used as a simple means of transportation from one place to another and then abandoned. If they didn't self destruct, the map would indeed be littered with dozens of vehicles by the end of a match. This would probably induce lag and such so i can see why they employed a way of cleaning out the clutter. It does happen a bit too fast in my opinion. I believe there is also a limit to how many vehicles can be in action at a time and if abandoned vehicles remained, other players would not be able to call in a vehicle when they need it as the quota would be full. I definitely think the system needs work. Maybe if the owner is within a certain range it would remain or possibly just increase the time before explosion. Maybe, dare i say, take away the free vehicles so people only call them if they really need them and intend to stay in them or risk losing the ISK and therefore you could remove the decay timer. I'm sure there are many ways to fix the issue. Let's hope we see some soon. |

most likely this is a way to keep battlefield clean of 'abandoned' vehicles |

I understand freeing up vehicle load via self destruct in other shooters but in DUST, vehicles are expensive assets where the self destruct should not apply. The current self destruct is why I do not put much ISK toward vehicle usage. That, and any friendly can steal your vehicle. |

I find the timer pretty short. I can jump out, hack a couple of things and by the time I get back to the LAV, its about to blow. Example of this are the spawn point and supply depot near object E on the large map. Park near the depot, do your hacks and your LAV will be ready to blow up in your face as you run back towards it
I find being close to the LAV stops this behavior, rather than just being in it, however its not always possible to park a LAV right next to the depot/gun/objective you are trying to hack though. |
