I switched Factions a couple of Times and while my Ship Space changed quite a bit, on the Battlefield the sense of Faction seemed diminished. In MAG if you were Valor, Raven or SVER you knew it. It felt foreign to me when I switched from Raven my 1st Faction to SVER my Faction and Again when I ended on my 3rd and Final Faction Valor.
The Outfits and Color Schemes of Everyone around you and Your Guns that You carried gave a great sense of being part of that Faction. Yet in Dust the Blindfolded Helmet you see as my Avatar here seems quite common. My Gun Color and shape was the same. the Backpack looking thing on my Back felt too familiar. I find myself looking for the Red Player Tag to know if I should shoot instead of Seeing a SVER tool and Knowing I should shoot. If even the Color Schemes could get some Variance that would be a great step in the Right Direction for Sense of Faction. |

The thing is though, we are hired mercs. We won't be fighting along side our CALDARI brothers in a valliant attempt to overthrow the minimtar with our allies the amarr. No, I'll probly shoot that Amarr bastard in the face if you know what I mean |

Well, if in the beginning we are really only doing Factional Warfare you may see a similar thing to MAG (assuming you stick with one faction [and possibly its ally] and not get hired by them all).
But once things open up we will be truly mercs, and there really won't be this sense of "race" or "faction" like you want. You use what fits your style and the situation best. |

We don't have all the racial variants yet. All ar are gallente and all assault suits are caldari, so there is no way to play one faction completely. The factions work like eve, only barrier is standing(soon, it's on menu already) and skill level in racial variant's skills.
The time to train skills for new race's gear will probably take longer then maxing out in mag would take. There are also 20 factions, 4 that match player races are involved in faction warfare. Blood raiders, angel cartel, mordu, ect.. are all seperate factions as well. Large null sec alliances like goons are essentially player created factions.
The faction war chat channels and npc missions in eve set mood of faction pretty well, we have none of this in beta yet. Starting race and gear used get mixed a lot unless in roleplay corp.
Only single faction infantry builds so far are shotgun/ar scout (no side arm), swarm (no side arm) assault, smg logi, scrambler pistol heavy. Only playable two are scout and logi. |
