Dear CCP,
My younger cousin of 2 years old has be diagnosed with Autism. My younger brother has Asperger's syndrome an autism spectrum disorder. Autism is on the rise statistically, 1 in 100 people are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. We don't have any knowledge why these odds are increasing. I wanted to know with your great track record in charity if you can do an arum drive/plex drive for autism speaks. Maybe with the money generated we'll be that much closer to the answer. And maybe I will get a chance to have a meaningful conversation with my younger cousin when she gets older. This is all i want before the statistics climb even higher.
Enduring the pain of your family thinking of you as an object, not talking to you, and the difficulty of showing their love back to you puts a heavy toll on my heart. I showed my little brother dust and he played the hell out of it! He'd play it for 10 hours strait with no breaks, even forgetting to eat sometimes. When I finally pried the controller from his hands I had 9m SP and well over 25m isk. And every day since then he has asked if he could play the game. I would greatly appreciate if you considered doing this.
Thanks, VK |

I 10000000% approve of this message and would love to see CCP contribute something to this very worthy cause!!
I've spent many hours with my Autistic nephew, friends and help out when there is Autism events in Colorado. They really need money to not only find a cure (fingers crossed) but to help these people adjust to the outside world.
Thank you so much for the great idea. Ill pass it around the STB forums and EV site.

CCP don't do this.
I have asperger's syndrome, part of autism spectrum disorder, and when I hear about "curing" autism, I don't know what to think. I grew up antisocial, but I grew up happy. I fostered an early interest in video games which persists to this day, and started writing computer code at the age of ten. I quickly became obsessed with it to the point it was just about all I ever did. And so when the day finally came that I graduated college and was hired by a video game company it was the happiest day of my life. 12 years of a dream was finally realized and now, three years later, couldn't be happier.
Point is, I may still be socially challenged. I wish someone had helped me with this. But I don't regret the fact that I have autism; not one bit. Right now I'm happy with my life. If I hadn't had autism I might have been more social growing up. I might have had more friends and more girlfriends and been happy with that. But I was autistic, and it wasn't that I couldn't make friends (although it was hard) it was that I didn't want to. I was happy just sitting, writing code and dreaming up worlds that no one had ever seen before. And I still am. I'm happier today than I ever have been. So don't try to cure Autism CCP. We don't need it. Maybe the next great coder for your company might be autistic.
(for the record I support Autism speaks goal of offering help and support to parents but not their attempt to cure it.) |

I find this post disagreeable but your entitled to the opinion you arrived at. Autism Speaks is good for other things then finding a cure. And do you dislike families that have an autistic person? This is the message that i got from this post so please clarify. |

Hello i have a younger brother sufferning from cerebral palsy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebral_palsy
It is somthing that it is not fully affecting his life yet besides his speech, motor skills an some phyiscal aspects. For the most he lives a normal 17 year old's life. I would also second the motion asking CCP to donate some of the money earned from Dust 514 aurum sales to go to the research to aid people with mental or physical disabilites.
As gamers we meet people from all walks of life. Soldiers sent home forever changed, young adults with MS unable to run or dance so they play RPG's. The mentally unstable do to higher brain function spending hours in RTS an puzzle games.
CCP believe it or not i would wager my salary on the fact that half of your subscription EVE players are war VET's while a third suffer from some form of disability while the remainder of them are like me. A famliy member to a war vet that never really came home. A big brother to a child that will never truly understand why they are not like every one else.
Well New Eden you just learned a lil about me i hope to see all folk post here an help with this most humble of cause.

Absolutely not. I obviously come from a family that raised an autistic child (me) and have great affection for them. Lord knows it wasn't easy for any of them. As I already said I support the goal of autism speaks to support families with autistic children but as far as the organization itself goes, that one point about "curing" autism to me is enough to throw everything else off.
When you talk about curing autism you're talking about eliminating a group of people who have been great painters, writers, coders, inventors, economists and thinkers. They're a group personally I'd like to see stick around.
EDIT: Deathslaer regarding your younger brother, (your cousin as well). Just because they aren't capable of showing emotion doesn't mean it isn't there. Autism doesn't make someone not a person, it just withdraws them into themselves, it doesn't mean your autistic family members don't love you.
A far as my family goes, every family and every person has problems, ours was no exception. Each of my Nueronormative siblings had their own ordeals to go through, teenagers tend to be that way. In the end my parents were proud of me. They wanted me to be happy, and they're happy that I'm happy, and that I achieved the happiness I wanted, not the "happiness" others tried to set for me. |

im always negative about myself others etc. so when u read this know that
does the money really help? it seems like rich people get richer and poor stay the same and die from the same diseases i dont really ever support charities even if i had it myself. People get tax cuts from donatating so why wouldnt u (they could do it for selfish reasons i think most do) and who knows if donated money means a damn thing or they just take time and allow people to die (circle of life and all)
dont really mean these ones for dieing but same concept i think
idk the world made me very skeptical and all |

Good people giving money for good causes always helps. I'm raising a 10 year old boy with cerebral palsy caused by a brain hemmorrhage while he was prematurely born at 1 pound 15 ounces. He has permanant brain damage and is physically and mentally disabled. People who don't know others going through such things have no idea how much medical care and need medical equipment costs.
In my experience, if it weren't for the generosity of others I would not have a van with a wheelchair lift in it to even take my son to a doctor's appointment or a wheelchair ramp to get him into the house.
Keep an open heart and give when you can give. Kindness comes back to you. |

This again. This arised on Eve forums aswell a few times. It won't happen, it actually turned into a closed thread eventually too I believe. I have 2 nephews with this, so I understand the ups and downs of autism. There are alot of charities all over, ccp will not cater to one specific charity in a field of many, sorry. Usually it is always a natural disaster that they run plex/aurum drives for. such as the haiti earthquakes and the japan tsunami. The only instance I know of from them donating to something else was to sean smiths family recently. However they didn't hold a plex drive for it, they donated on thier own to them I'm guessing because of how big of a part of the community he was. They helped advertise a player gathering that lead to some funds being generated also to that same family. But still did not directly run a charity drive for it. If they started doing it for non global catastrophes, they would be running a new drive every week and never make much off thier own plex/aurum sales for the company. To many would feel one charity got attention whereas another was completely ignored but they feel it was more deserving.
side note: some of the best and brightest are/were autistic
Autism awareness is good, so I'm not trying to shut you down either. just this isn't the way to go about it. |
