Admittedly I've only been playing for a few weeks, but if teamwork is what we're looking for in this game there are some easy fixes that need to be implemented.
First it took me way too long to figure out how to be able to talk to other players with my headset. No clear instructions were available on what to do. I ended up finding the answer on this message board. Having to go into the settings and enable voice was an unneccessary hidden step. Having to pay for the ability to speak to each other is total BS by the way. It's too integral to the whole experience to hold it back and force players to pay with AUR to be able to communicate.
Second once I met some cool players who wanted to work together after the game was done and I looked at "players met" on the PS3 XMB there was no one from Dust listed. Maybe that's due to the beta status, but that must be in the final game. So once I figured this bit out I realized that I had to quickly add the players I liked to my in-game contact list at the end of the match. But then when it came time to send a friend invite I had to keep switching back and forth between the XMB and the contacts list to find what the merc's player's sign on ID was. Squad building is the same, send PS friend a message, "Want to play? What's your merc name?" Wait for reply then switch back to the squad building screen, scroll through the list of merc names and find it, then send invite. Repeat 2 more times to build your full squad. Can they make it any more complicated? And unless you only play with a small group of people or have a photographic memory you'll be doing this same process each time you play. I'll probably end up writing myself a list; Merc X = PS3 Player Y.
Like many of the others I've seen on here I was a MAG player and I loved the teamwork aspect of it. It was so easy to just send an invite to a PS3 friend and they would accept and be in the group. |

Just want to point out, you don't have to pay anything to talk to other players. I believe the UVT is for speaking with players in EVE (Since EVE and DUST players can be in the same rooms talking.)
Also, why not just use the ingame messaging system, add the people you like to your watch list then hit em up with a mail whenever. It's possible you may come across a lot of people you think are cool, but adding them to your PS Friends list isn't viable (for many of us) due to it becoming full or something.

The reason I hadn't done it that way was because I didn't know what "watch list" meant. Same with buying the UVT. If the UVT is only for use when communicating with EVE players why is it even in the game at this piont? Don't get me wrong, there is much that I enjoy about this game, but the figure it out on your own aspect is not. The in game tutorials are simplistic at best and the online manual that's available is not much better. The best source of information on understanding the game is here in the forums, which is a hassle and since the information comes from the players and not the game's creators it creates a perception of lacking importance to them. The game is very complex, which is one of the things that I love most about it. It has incredible depth, but understanding that depth doesn't need to be such a trial. Another example being the training cost modifier. Nowhere in the game does it ever explain what that means. I had to find it here. If the lack of explanation is still that way when the final game is released I see it being a source of frustration for players that weren't involved in the beta which likely will cause some to abandon it. |
