EVE won't really notice DUST until CCP lifts the veil on some of the mechanics of how the two interact, but I'm thinking that once the foundations are laid and the mechanics and communications are running smooth, and CCP has determined that the EVE economy is not going to implode, things will start to happen fast.

My bet is that in the long run, CCP is going to pull out all the stops and a brilliant leader and his/her generals will be able to carve out their place in New Eden operating from EVE or DUST.

At that point, we're all in for a helluva ride.

I didn't read the blog because I could see it was crap just from the first quote. There's no way Eve-side CSM can represent Dusters. The games may be sisters and all, but they both attract mostly different kinds of players with different priorities.

Dust CSM elections should be a hoot. I'm only slightly sarcastic in thinking that the highest KDRs will be on the first panel. Apparently that's how competence is judged in FPSs.

There are plenty of players who care only about their KDRs, and the KDRs of others. Doesn't mean they should be anywhere near a leadership position, and you would hope most people would understand that. I feel the majority of KDR-worshipers have no interest in the health of the overall game, only in the health of their "god", and will use (and lobby for keeping) whatever it is that makes it easiest for them to keep a high KDR, and to punish everyone else.

Its hard to say what the majority of players think, since it is such a diverse population, but people can recognize the real leaders in the shooter community. These are the people that can get people to follow and do what's needed regardless of their gaming skill. Yes, some are really good gamers, but the majority are "average" (depending on who you ask) gamers, but can do more overall then the really good gamers. Yes, some people will only follow/ally with people who they think are as good or better then they are, but (you would hope) most gamers can recognize what really needs to be done, especially in a game like Dust.

People think shooter-gamers (ok, most gamers, but especially those who play shooters) are only a bunch of simple-minded, KDR-worshiping, excessively angry people. The sad thing is, they happen to be one of the most vocal and most seen (as in media and the like) minorities. There are brilliant people that play shooters and will be organizing people in Dust, some of whom who may very well rival some of the great leaders of EVE corps and alliances. But since they play shooters (and aren't interested in a game like EVE, to be relevant to EVE/Dust) many discount their worth.

I'm sure there will be one player who is a KDR-lover who will become a face of the Dust community. But I'm also sure that most of the people who will have that sort of power and influence over the community are not going to be that type of player, rather those who are well-known and respected for other reasons.
